Description

Pharmacological properties

The drug exhibits an acaricidal effect against various types of mites, including scabies mites (acarus scabiei) and mites of the genus Demodex, and exhibits anti-pediculosis activity.

It has a toxic effect on all types of lice (death of lice occurs after 2-5 hours) and ticks (after 7-32 minutes). Penetrates through the chitinous cover and accumulates in the tick's body in toxic concentrations. Causes the death of larvae and adults of scabies mites; does not affect eggs.

Indication

Treatment for scabies, pediculosis.

Application

Benzyl benzoate 25% is applied topically. Apply 10-15 g of cream at a time. For children, cover all areas of the skin with the cream, for adults, apply to all areas of the skin, except the face and scalp. When treating scabies, before using the drug, you must take a hot shower with soap to remove scales and crusts, rinse the soap thoroughly and wipe with a towel. Squeeze the cream out of the tube, rub it into the skin. It is best to carry out the treatment at night, before going to bed.

For scabies, first treat the skin of the left and right hands, the torso (except for the skin of the face and scalp), and then the skin of the feet, soles and toes. In areas with delicate skin (groin area, genitals, mammary glands), as well as in case of eczema, dermatitis or pyoderma, the cream should be applied carefully, without rubbing in. For children, the cream should be applied to the entire skin in the same sequence. After treatment, hands should not be washed for 3 hours. In some cases, after the applied cream has dried (usually after 1 hour), it is recommended to apply a second layer of the drug. After the end of the treatment, patients should wear clean underwear, change bed linen. After 24-48 hours, take a shower and change underwear and bed linen again. The cream should be applied to the skin 4 times for 2 weeks with an interval of 3-4 days. An average of 60-90 g of cream is consumed per course of treatment.

For the treatment of scabies in children under 5 years of age, the cream should be diluted with warm boiled water (30-35 °C) in a ratio of 1: 1 immediately before use and mixed until a homogeneous emulsion is formed. Treatment should usually be carried out without a prior warm bath 2 times with an interval of 12 hours.

For the treatment of Norwegian scabies, before using Benzyl Benzoate cream, it is necessary to first cleanse the skin of crusts using keratolytic agents. The duration of the treatment course is determined by the dynamics of cleansing the skin, eliminating the inflammatory process, and stopping itching.

For the treatment of pediculosis, apply the drug, rubbing it lightly, to the scalp and hair, and tie the head with a scarf. After 30 minutes, wash off the drug with running water and rinse the hair with a warm 5% vinegar solution. After the described procedure, wash the hair with soap or shampoo and comb it with a fine-tooth comb to remove nits. For pubic pediculosis, rub the cream into the skin of the pubis, abdomen, inguinal folds and inner thighs. The effectiveness of the treatment is determined after 1 day and, if necessary, the procedure should be repeated.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to benzyl benzoate or to other components of the drug, skin damage, including pustular skin diseases.

Side effects

When rubbing the drug into the skin, a burning sensation may occur, which disappears with further application of the cream. In isolated cases, people with sensitive skin may experience local skin reactions, a burning sensation or itching, redness or dryness of the skin area treated with the drug, as well as allergic reactions. If the above side effects do not disappear on their own, the use of the drug must be discontinued. Skin sensitivity was especially increased in damaged areas and genitals. Sometimes contact dermatitis may occur. Since the drug contains propylene glycol, skin irritation is possible.

Special instructions

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Do not use during pregnancy. Breastfeeding should be discontinued during treatment.

The ability to influence the reaction speed when driving vehicles or working with other mechanisms. Does not affect.

Children. Contraindicated in children under 3 years of age.

Interactions

No pharmacological interaction of benzyl benzoate cream with other drugs has been identified, however, as with all antiparasitic agents, it is not recommended to use it simultaneously with other drugs for external use. Local or systemic use of corticosteroids may contribute to the disappearance or reduction of the severity of some symptoms (itching, hyperemia) while maintaining the invasion, therefore, during the period of treatment with benzyl benzoate cream, the use of such drugs should be avoided.

Overdose

Overdose may increase the manifestations of side effects, such as contact dermatitis.

If the cream is accidentally swallowed or applied in very large quantities, increased side effects of the drug, contact dermatitis, sudden loss of consciousness, CNS stimulation (convulsions, including in children) and urinary retention are possible.

Treatment is symptomatic. The skin must be cleaned of the cream. If the cream is swallowed, the stomach must be washed, and then activated charcoal must be taken. If necessary, anticonvulsants must be used.

If any adverse reaction occurs at the site of application, wash it off with soap and water.

Storage conditions

At a temperature not exceeding 25 °C.
