Pharmacological properties

Bifonazole (1α - (- biphenyl-4-ulbenzyl) imidazole) is a broad-spectrum antifungal agent. Depending on the dose, it has fungistatic or fungicidal properties. The mechanism of action of the drug is due to the violation of the synthesis of ergosterol, which is part of the cell membrane of fungi. Active against dermatophytes, yeasts (including the genus Candida), molds (malassezia furfur) and other fungi, cocci. Corynebacterium minutissimum, piturosporum orbiculare are also sensitive to the drug. After topical application of bifonazole, only 0.6-0.8% of the active substance is absorbed from the surface of healthy skin and 2-4% - in inflammatory skin processes.

The half-life is 19-32 hours. After 6 hours, the concentration of bifonazole in the upper and papillary layers of the epidermis corresponds to or many times exceeds the MIC for the main pathogens of dermatomycoses.

Indication

Dermatomycoses caused by dermatophytes, yeasts, molds and other fungi, including mycoses of the feet, hands, smooth skin and skin folds; lichen varicolor, superficial candidiasis; erythrasma.

Application

The gel is applied once a day in the evening before bedtime in a thin layer to the affected area of the skin and rubbed in. A single dose is set taking into account the size of the lesion - to treat an area the size of the palm of your hand, use a gel column about 5 mm long.

The duration of treatment for mycoses of the feet and skin lesions in the interdigital spaces of the feet is 3 weeks; for mycoses of the hands, skin folds and smooth skin - 2-3 weeks; for lichen varicolor and erythrasma - 2 weeks; for superficial candidiasis - 2-4 weeks.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Side effects

Allergic and local reactions are possible (mild hyperemia, skin irritation, in some cases - burning and tingling).

Special instructions

The use of the drug in the first trimester of pregnancy is possible only under strict indications. Treatment of infants with the drug can be carried out only under the supervision of a doctor.
