Composition

active ingredients: 1 g of ointment contains: menthol 39 mg, methyl salicylate 202 mg;

excipients: paraffin, white soft paraffin.

Dosage form

Ointment.

Main physicochemical properties: white or yellow ointment with a strong specific odor. The ointment should be homogeneous in appearance.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics. Combined drug for external use. Methyl salicylate exhibits anti-inflammatory, analgesic, irritating and distracting effects, which are based on the effect on increased capillary permeability, microcirculation processes, inhibition of the activity of inflammatory mediators, including bradykinin, which has an algogenic effect. Irritation of sensitive nerve endings with menthol causes a mild local analgesic effect.

Indication

Rheumatism (joint and muscle), sciatica, arthritis, neuralgia, exudative pleurisy.

Contraindication

Increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug, skin diseases, injuries, wounds of the skin at the site of application of the drug.

Hypersensitivity to acetylsalicylic acid, ibuprofen or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, especially if there is a history of bronchial asthma.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions

Although adequate controlled interaction studies have not been performed, it is possible that excessive use of topical salicylates may increase the effects of coumarin anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents. Therefore, caution should be exercised in patients taking coumarin anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents, including aspirin.

Application features

Prevent the ointment from getting into the eyes. In case of accidental contact with the ointment, rinse the eyes with water and consult a doctor immediately.

Do not use in persons prone to allergic reactions to the components of the drug.

Apply the drug to intact skin areas. When rubbed into the skin, a feeling of coldness occurs, then warmth, a slight burning and tingling.

Do not use with an occlusive dressing.

Wash hands thoroughly after each application of the ointment. If skin irritation occurs, discontinue use.

The drug contains salicylates, which are aspirin-like substances, so precautions regarding the use of aspirin should be taken into account.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding

The safety and efficacy of the drug during pregnancy or breastfeeding have not been studied.

Ability to influence reaction speed when driving vehicles or other mechanisms

Does not affect.

Method of administration and doses

The drug is used externally. Rub 2–3 times a day into painful areas of the body, including the chest (for pleurisy). After rubbing the ointment, it is recommended to apply a dry warming bandage.

The duration of use is determined by the nature and severity of the disease, the nature of concomitant therapy, and the effect achieved.

Children.

Do not use in children under 3 years of age due to the menthol content in the preparation.

Overdose

Feeling of intense heat and burning at the site of ointment application, increased manifestations of adverse reactions.

Side effects

Possible skin burns, blisters and temporary skin reactions. Feeling of cold, then warmth, slight burning and tingling, possible allergic reactions, including skin redness, rash, hives, contact dermatitis, itching.

Expiration date

3 years.

Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C.
