Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics.
Boric acid has antiseptic and fungistatic activity, and also has an astringent effect. Coagulates proteins (including enzyme) of the microbial cell, disrupts the permeability of the cell membrane. A 5% aqueous solution inhibits the processes of phagocytosis, a 2-4% solution inhibits the growth and development of bacteria. It has a weak irritant effect on granulation tissue.
Pharmacokinetics.
Adsorbed through the affected area of the skin, the mucous membrane of the digestive tract (in case of accidental ingestion).
The drug penetrates well through the skin and mucous membranes; is poorly excreted from the body and can accumulate in internal organs and tissues.
Indication
Conjunctivitis, dermatitis, eczema, including weeping eczema, diaper rash, pyoderma, acute and chronic otitis, colpitis.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to boric acid, renal dysfunction, chronic mesotympanitis with normal or slightly altered mucous membrane, traumatic perforations of the eardrum; pregnancy or breastfeeding, for treatment of the mammary glands.
Special safety measures.
Do not apply the product to large areas of skin. Do not use to wash body cavities - absorption is possible. Do not allow the product to get into the eyes.

Method of administration and doses
Boric acid should be used by adults, taking into account the possibility of applying it only to limited areas of the body. 0.5%, 1%, 2%, 3% alcohol solutions (0.5 g, 1 g, 2 g or 3 g of boric acid, 70% ethanol to 100 ml) should be used for otitis media: insert turundas moistened with the solution into the external auditory canal, and also instill 3-5 drops 2-3 times a day.
For dermatitis and weeping eczema, use a 3% aqueous solution (3 g of boric acid in 100 ml of water) for lotions. Prepare aqueous solutions from the powder extempore.
In pyoderma, diaper rash, for lubricating the affected areas, it can also be used as a 10% solution in glycerin (10 g of boric acid, glycerin to 100 ml). This solution can also be used to lubricate the mucous membrane in colpitis. For washing the conjunctival sac in conjunctivitis, a 2% aqueous solution (2 g of boric acid in 100 ml of water) is prescribed.
The duration of the treatment course is no more than 3-5 days.

The drug is not used in children.
Overdose
Symptoms of acute poisoning: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, circulatory disorders and depression of the central nervous system, decreased body temperature, shock, coma, erythematous rash. In case of severe poisoning, measures should be taken to maintain important body functions, hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis, blood exchange transfusion. With prolonged use of the drug on large areas of the skin, symptoms of chronic intoxication may occur: tissue edema, exhaustion, stomatitis, eczema, menstrual disorders in women, anemia, convulsions, alopecia. In these cases, the drug should be canceled and symptomatic treatment should be carried out.
Adverse reactions
It is possible (especially in case of overdose, prolonged use, impaired renal function) to develop acute and chronic reactions: nausea, vomiting, headache, confusion, convulsions, diarrhea, skin rash, desquamation of the epithelium.
Allergic reactions are possible, including skin redness, itching, urticaria, edema, development of anaphylactic reactions, including shock; oliguria is possible.
