Composition:
Active ingredient: boric acid; 1 g of ointment contains 0.05 g of boric acid;
excipients: white soft paraffin.
Dosage form.

Main physicochemical properties: white or light yellow ointment, odorless. The ointment should be homogeneous in appearance.

Pharmacological properties.
Pharmacodynamics.
Boric acid belongs to the group of antiseptic agents. It has antiseptic, fungistatic, as well as anti-pediculosis and astringent effects. It coagulates proteins (including enzyme) of microbial cells, disrupts the permeability of the cell membrane. It inhibits the growth and development of bacteria. It has a weak irritating effect on granulation tissue.
Pharmacokinetics.
Absorbed through damaged skin, wound surfaces, mucous membranes of the digestive tract (in case of accidental ingestion). Boric acid can accumulate in organs and tissues of the body. It is excreted slowly (cumulation occurs with repeated administration).
Clinical characteristics.
Indication.
Pediculosis. as an antiseptic for diaper rash and skin cracks, dermatitis, pyoderma, eczema, acute and chronic external otitis.
Contraindication.
Chronic mesotympanitis with normal or slightly altered mucous membrane, traumatic perforations of the tympanic membrane.
Hypersensitivity to boric acid. Impaired kidney function.
Interaction with other drugs and other types of interactions.
When used simultaneously with drugs for external use, new compounds with unpredictable effects may be formed.
Application features.
"Boric ointment 5%" should not be applied to hairy areas in acute inflammatory skin diseases. Avoid getting the ointment in the eyes (in case of contact, rinse the eyes with warm water). Do not apply to large areas of the body. In case of individual intolerance to boric acid or other components of the drug, it is recommended to stop using the drug.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
The use of the drug is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Method of administration and doses.
For pediculosis, apply boric ointment to the scalp, depending on the degree of infection, hair thickness and length, for 10-15-25 g. After 20-30 minutes, rinse with warm running water using detergents. Comb the hair thoroughly with a thick comb.
Use in inflammatory diseases of the external auditory canal is determined by the doctor and depends on the nature of the pathological process.
For diaper rash and skin cracks, the ointment is applied in a thin layer to the affected areas.
Children.
There is no experience of use in children.
Overdose.
With prolonged use on large affected areas, manifestations of acute poisoning are possible: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, circulatory disorders and depression of the central nervous system, decreased body temperature, erythromatous rash, shock, coma. With prolonged use, manifestations of chronic intoxication are possible: exhaustion, stomatitis, eczema, local tissue edema, menstrual disorders, anemia, convulsions, alopecia. Symptomatic treatment. Hemotransfusion, hemo- and peritoneal dialysis are indicated. In case of accidental ingestion, gastric lavage should be performed, saline laxatives, enterosorbents (activated carbon) should be administered, and symptomatic therapy should be administered. In case of severe poisoning, measures should be taken to maintain the body's vital functions.
Adverse reactions.
With prolonged use on large affected areas, nausea, headache, vomiting, confusion, diarrhea, skin rash, desquamation of the epithelium, oliguria are possible. The use of the drug can cause allergic reactions (redness of the skin, itching, urticaria, edema). In isolated cases, the development of an anaphylactic reaction, including shock. Convulsions.
