Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
A traditional herbal medicinal product used as an expectorant for coughs associated with colds, mainly in long-term therapy. The essential oils and flavonoids of thyme herb have a bronchodilator, secretolytic and antibacterial effect, thus contributing to the rapid dissolution of phlegm accumulated in the respiratory tract, reducing cough, facilitating breathing, and also affecting the causative agent of the infection.
The special formulation of the excipient – a natural base (African acacia gum) – promotes the slow release of the active ingredient, which causes a gradual cessation of secretion by the mucous membranes, thereby reducing irritation of the mucous membranes, activating salivation and thus moisturizing the mucous membrane, thereby further relieving irritation from coughing and stopping coughing. Quickly and for a long time protects the receptors of the respiratory tract mucosa from irritation.
Pharmacokinetics
Flavonoids of thyme herb (apigenin, luteolin) are broken down by intestinal microflora and are well absorbed. They are excreted from the body mainly with urine in unchanged form or in the form of metabolites.
