Pharmacological properties

Calcium salt of gluconic acid; contains 9% calcium. Calcium ions are involved in the transmission of nerve impulses, contraction of smooth and striated muscles, functioning of the myocardium, blood clotting processes; they are necessary for the formation of bone tissue, the functioning of other systems and organs. The concentration of calcium ions in the blood decreases in many pathological processes; severe hypocalcemia contributes to the occurrence of tetany. Calcium gluconate, in addition to eliminating hypocalcemia, reduces vascular permeability, exhibits antiallergic, anti-spasmodic, hemostatic effects. Unlike calcium chloride, it has a weaker local irritant effect.

Indication

Insufficient function of the parathyroid glands, increased excretion of calcium from the body (in particular, during prolonged immobilization), allergic diseases, including drug allergies, to reduce vascular permeability in pathological processes of various genesis, in parenchymal hepatitis, toxic liver lesions, nephritis, eclampsia, hyperkalemic form of paroxysmal myoplegia, in skin diseases, as a hemostatic agent, as well as as an antidote for poisoning with magnesium salts, oxalic acid and its soluble salts, soluble salts of hydrofluoric acid.

Application

Inside before meals, adults at a dose of 1-3 g 2-3 times a day, children under 1 year old - 0.5 g, 2-4 years old - 1 g, 5-6 years old - 1-1.5 g, 7-9 years old - 1.5-2 g, 10-14 years old - 2-3 g 2-3 times a day.

Contraindication

Tendency to thrombosis, hypercalcemia, severe atherosclerosis.

Side effects

The drug is usually well tolerated, side effects are observed with parenteral administration.

Interactions

Before filling the syringe with a calcium gluconate solution, it should not contain any ethyl alcohol residues (gluconate precipitation).

Storage conditions

In a dry place, protected from light, at a temperature not lower than 20 °C.
