Carbamazepine-Astrapharm is an antiepileptic drug.
Indications for use
epilepsy; acute manic states; maintenance therapy in bipolar affective disorders to prevent exacerbations or to reduce the clinical manifestations of exacerbations; alcohol withdrawal syndrome; idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia and trigeminal neuralgia in multiple sclerosis (typical and atypical); idiopathic glossopharyngeal neuralgia.Warehouse
1 tablet contains 200 mg of carbamazepine; excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, magnesium stearate, croscarmellose sodium.Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to carbamazepine or to chemically similar drugs (such as tricyclic antidepressants), or to any other component of the drug.
Atrioventricular block.
History of bone marrow suppression.
Method of application
Carbamazepine-Astrapharm tablets are taken orally; usually the daily dose of the drug should be divided into 2 or 3 doses. The drug can be taken during, after meals or in between meals with a small amount of liquid, for example, a glass of water.
Adults: The recommended initial dose of the drug is 100-200 mg 1-2 times a day.
Then the dose is slowly increased until the optimal effect is achieved; often the daily dose is 800-1200 mg. Some patients may require a dose of Carbamazepine-Astrapharm reaching 1600 mg or even 2000 mg per day.
Children: Treatment can be started with 100 mg/day; the dose should be increased gradually - by 100 mg every week.
Application features
Carbamazepine-Astrapharm should be prescribed only under medical supervision, only after assessing the benefit/risk ratio and subject to careful monitoring of patients with cardiac, hepatic or renal disorders, a history of hematological adverse reactions to other drugs, and patients with interrupted courses of carbamazepine therapy.
Pregnant women
The potential benefits of using the drug should be carefully weighed against the possible risks (especially in the first trimester of pregnancy).
Children
Carbamazepine-Astrapharm can be taken by children aged 5 and over.
Drivers
The ability of a patient taking Carbamazepine-Astrapharm to react quickly (especially at the beginning of therapy or during the dose adjustment period) may be impaired due to dizziness and drowsiness, therefore the patient should be careful when driving a car or working with other mechanisms.
Overdose
Central nervous system: inhibition of CNS functions; disorientation, depressed level of consciousness, drowsiness, excitement, hallucinations, coma.
Respiratory system: respiratory depression, pulmonary edema.
Cardiovascular system: tachycardia, arterial hypotension, sometimes - arterial hypertension.
Digestive tract: vomiting, retention of food in the stomach, decreased motility of the large intestine.
Musculoskeletal system: isolated cases of rhabdomyolysis associated with the toxic effect of carbamazepine have been reported.
Side effects
From the blood system: leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, eosinophilia, leukocytosis, lymphadenopathy, folic acid deficiency; agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia, pancytopenia, red blood cell aplasia, anemia.
On the part of the immune system: delayed-type multiorgan hypersensitivity with fever, skin rashes, vasculitis, lymphadenopathy; signs resembling lymphoma; arthralgia, leukopenia, eosinophilia.
From the endocrine system: edema, fluid retention, weight gain, hyponatremia.
Storage conditions
Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C.
