When administered orally, it is hydrolyzed by lipase in the small intestine to form ricinoleic acid, which causes irritation of intestinal receptors and reflexively increases its peristalsis. The laxative effect usually occurs after 5-6 hours. The drug also causes reflex contraction of the myometrium.

Hypersensitivity to the drug. Poisoning with fat-soluble substances (phosphorus, benzene, phenol). Gastric and duodenal ulcers, ulcerative colitis. Poisoning with fat-soluble anthelmintic agents, male fern extract. Acute inflammatory processes in the abdominal cavity (appendicitis, peritonitis). Uterine bleeding. Cachexia. Pregnancy. Elderly age. Children up to 12 years of age. Hypersensitivity to plants of the Euphorbiaceae family, undiagnosed abdominal pain, obstruction of the bile ducts, severe dehydration.

It is not recommended to use Castor Oil simultaneously with Male Fern Extract.
