Pharmacodynamics

When administered orally, it is hydrolyzed by lipase in the small intestine to form ricinoleic acid, which causes irritation of intestinal receptors and reflexively increases its peristalsis. The laxative effect usually occurs after 5-6 hours. The drug also causes reflex contraction of the myometrium.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to the drug; hypersensitivity to plants of the Euphorbiaceae family; poisoning with fat-soluble substances (phosphorus, benzene, phenol); gastric and duodenal ulcers, ulcerative colitis; poisoning with fat-soluble anthelmintics, male fern extract; acute inflammatory processes in the abdominal cavity (appendicitis, peritonitis); uterine bleeding; cachexia; old age; undiagnosed abdominal pain; obstruction of the bile ducts; severe dehydration.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions

It is not recommended to use Castor Oil simultaneously with Male Fern Extract.
