Clarithromycin – Astrapharm is an antimicrobial drug for systemic use.
Treatment of infections caused by microorganisms susceptible to clarithromycin:
Upper respiratory tract infections, i.e. nasopharynx (tonsillitis, pharyngitis), and paranasal sinus infections; Lower respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, acute croupous pneumonia and primary atypical pneumonia); Skin and soft tissue infections (impetigo, folliculitis, erysipeloid, furunculosis, infected wounds); Acute and chronic odontogenic infections; Disseminated or localized mycobacterial infections caused by Mycobacterium avium or Mycobacterium intracellulare. Localized infections caused by Mycobacterium chelonae, Mycobacterium fortuitum or Mycobacterium kansasii; Eradication of H. pylori in patients with duodenal ulcer when suppressing hydrochloric acid secretion (clarithromycin activity against H. pylori at neutral pH is higher than at acidic pH).Warehouse
1 tablet contains clarithromycin (calculated as 100% substance) 500 mg; excipients: corn starch, povidone, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, colloidal anhydrous silicon dioxide, stearic acid, talc, magnesium stearate; “SeleCoatTM” coating (hypromellose, polyethylene glycol, titanium dioxide (E 171)).Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to macrolide antibiotics or to other components of the drug.
Hypokalemia (risk of QT prolongation).
Severe hepatic insufficiency and concomitant renal insufficiency.
Method of application
The recommended dose of clarithromycin for adults and children aged 12 years and over is 250 mg (1 tablet) every 12 hours, in more severe infections the dose can be increased to 500 mg (2 tablets) every 12 hours. Usually the duration of treatment depends on the severity of the infection and is from 6 to 14 days.
Application features
Prolonged or repeated use of antibiotics may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible bacteria and fungi. If superinfection occurs, appropriate therapy should be initiated.
Pregnant women
The safety of clarithromycin during pregnancy or breastfeeding has not been established. The drug should not be used during pregnancy without careful benefit/risk assessment.
Children
The drug is used in children over 12 years of age.
Drivers
There are no data on the effects. However, before driving or operating machinery, it is necessary to take into account the possible occurrence of adverse reactions from the nervous system, such as seizures, dizziness, vertigo, hallucinations, confusion, disorientation.
Overdose
There are reports that clarithromycin overdose may cause gastrointestinal symptoms. One patient with a history of bipolar psychosis who took 8 g of clarithromycin developed altered mental status, paranoid behavior, hypokalemia, and hypoxemia.
Side effects
Infections and infestations: cellulitis, candidiasis, gastroenteritis, infection, vaginal infection, pseudomembranous colitis, erysipelas.
From the blood system: leukopenia, neutropenia, thrombocythemia, eosinophilia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia.
Immune system disorders: anaphylactoid reactions, hypersensitivity, anaphylactic reactions, angioedema.
Metabolic: anorexia, decreased appetite, hypoglycemia.
On the part of the psyche: insomnia, anxiety, nervousness, psychosis, confusion, depersonalization, depression, disorientation, hallucinations, nightmares, mania.
Storage conditions
Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25°C.
