Efloran solution for infusion is used for the treatment and prevention of infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to metronidazole (mainly anaerobic bacteria). Treatment should be prescribed in the case of:
Central nervous system infections (including brain abscess, meningitis); lung and pleural infections (including necrotizing pneumonia, aspiration pneumonia, lung abscess); endocarditis; gastrointestinal and abdominal infections, including peritonitis, liver abscess, infections after colon or rectal surgery, purulent lesions of the abdominal or pelvic cavity; gynecological infections (including endometritis after hysterectomy or cesarean section, puerperal fever, septic abortion); ENT and oral infections (including Simanowski-Plaut-Vincent tonsillitis); bone and joint infections (including osteomyelitis); gas gangrene; septicemia with thrombophlebitis.Prophylactic use of metronidazole is always indicated before surgeries with a high risk of anaerobic infections (gynecological and intra-abdominal surgeries).
Composition
The active substance is metronidazole (100 ml (1 bottle) contains 500 mg of metronidazole).
Excipients: sodium chloride, sodium edetate, water for injections.
Contraindication
hypersensitivity to metronidazole, other drugs with a similar chemical structure (nitroimidazole) or to any component of the drug; it is not recommended to use the drug in combination with disulfiram or alcohol; pregnancy; breastfeeding.Method of application
The dose of metronidazole should be adjusted according to the patient's individual response to treatment, age and body weight, as well as the type and severity of the disease.
The following dosage recommendations should be followed.
Adults and children over 12 years of age: the usual dose is 500 mg every 8 hours. If medically indicated, a loading dose of 15 mg/kg body weight may be administered at the start of treatment.
Children aged 2 to 12 years: 7-10 mg metronidazole/kg body weight every 8 hours, corresponding to a daily dose of 20-30 mg metronidazole/kg body weight.
The duration of treatment depends on the effectiveness. In most cases, 7 days of treatment is sufficient for most patients. If there are clinical indications, treatment can be continued.
Pre- and postoperative infection prevention:
Adults and children aged 11 years and over: complete the 500 mg dose 1 hour before surgery; repeat the dose after 8 and 16 hours; Children aged 2 to 11 years: 15 mg/kg body weight, complete the administration approximately 1 hour before surgery, then 7.5 mg/kg body weight after 8 and 16 hours.Method of administration
Administer as an intravenous infusion. The contents of one vial should be administered intravenously slowly, i.e. a maximum of 100 ml over a period of at least 20 minutes, but usually over one hour.
Do not dilute Efloran, solution for infusion, with any diluents, and do not add any other drugs.
Antibiotics prescribed by a doctor for concomitant therapy should be administered separately.

Children
Use in children aged 2 years and over as indicated.
Drivers
"Efloran" may have a minor or moderate effect on the reaction rate when driving or operating other mechanisms, especially when drinking alcohol during treatment. Patients should be warned about the possibility of drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, hallucinations, seizures and visual disturbances, which are transient. The doctor should draw the patient's attention to this and advise him not to drive or operate other mechanisms.
Overdose
Symptoms: nausea, vomiting and dizziness, in more severe cases - ataxia, paresthesia and seizures.
Treatment is symptomatic. There is no specific antidote. Metronidazole and its metabolites are rapidly removed by hemodialysis.
Side effects
Side effects are mainly associated with prolonged use of high doses. The most common are nausea and taste changes. Serious adverse reactions are rare when the drug is used according to the recommended dosage regimen.
Storage conditions
Store in the original packaging to protect from light at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C, out of the reach of children.
