Ferumbo syrup 50 mg/5 ml jar of 100 ml

Ferumbo syrup is used to treat iron deficiency without anemia (latent iron deficiency) and iron deficiency anemia (clinically pronounced iron deficiency). Iron deficiency and its degree must be confirmed by appropriate laboratory tests.

Composition

The active substance is iron (in the form of a complex with polymaltose). Five ml of syrup contain 50 mg of iron (in the form of a complex with polymaltose) (calculated on 100% dry matter).

Excipients: methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 218), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 216), glycerol, sorbitol (E 420), sucrose, hydroxyethylcellulose, vanilla-cream flavoring (contains propylene glycol in an amount of no more than 1.5 mg/ml of syrup), purified water.

Contraindication

Method of application

The syrup should be taken during or immediately after meals, possibly mixing it with fruit and vegetable juices or with nutritional mixtures.

The daily dose can be taken in one or more doses.

The dose of the drug and the duration of the treatment course depend on the degree of iron deficiency.

To correctly measure the dose of syrup, use the dosing device included in the pack (a pipette-dispenser with graduations from 0.5 to 2.5 ml). 1 ml of the drug contains 10 mg of iron.

For the treatment of clinically pronounced iron deficiency, Ferumbo should be taken according to the following recommendations:

At these doses, treatment lasts an average of 3-5 months until the hemoglobin level in the blood normalizes. After that, to replenish the iron depot in the body's tissues, the drug must be used for several more weeks in doses for the treatment of latent iron deficiency (1/2 of the therapeutic dose) until the serum ferritin level normalizes.

Treatment of latent iron deficiency should be continued for at least 1-2 months under the control of ferrokinetic indicators.

Pregnant women

The use of the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding is recommended only after consultation with a doctor and a careful assessment of the benefit/risk ratio.

Children

The drug is used in children from birth. Due to the need to prescribe very small doses of the drug to premature children, it is recommended to use similar drugs with a lower concentration of the active substance.

Drivers

No relevant studies have been conducted. It is unlikely that the drug affects the reaction rate when driving or operating complex mechanisms.

Overdose

While taking the drug in case of overdose, no signs of intoxication or excessive iron intake into the body were recorded due to the features of controlled release and low toxicity of the polymaltose complex of iron (III) hydroxide (LD50 in animals > 2000 mg iron / kg body weight). No cases of unintentional overdose with a fatal outcome have been reported.

Side effects

The most common adverse reaction is a change in stool color (in 23% of patients), which is due to iron excretion. This is of no clinical significance.

Storage conditions

Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C, out of the reach of children.

Shelf life - 2 years.

After opening the bottle, the shelf life of the drug is 30 days at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C.
