Folic acid tablets 1 mg blister No. 50

Pharmacological properties
Folic acid (vitamin F) is n- [4 - [(2-amino-l, 4-dihydro-4-oxo-6-pteridyl) methyl] amino] benzoyl-l (+) - glutamic acid. It belongs to the group of vitamins B. In the human body, it is synthesized by the intestinal microflora and is reduced to tetrahydrofolic acid - a coenzyme necessary for many metabolic processes. It participates in the synthesis of amino acids, nucleic acids, pyrimidines, purines, and choline metabolism. Together with vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin), it stimulates the process of hematopoiesis, in particular erythropoiesis. It is necessary for the normal development of other blood cells, including the formation and maturation of megaloblasts. Folic acid deficiency in the body leads to inhibition of the processes that ensure the transition from the megaloblastic phase of hematopoiesis to the normoblast phase.
Indication
Stimulation of erythropoiesis in macrocytic anemias (in particular, megaloblastic anemias in pregnant women), normalization of hematopoiesis in sprue; anemia and leukopenia caused by exposure to ionizing radiation, chemicals, and drugs; anemia due to resection of the stomach and intestines; intestinal tuberculosis, chronic gastroenteritis; alimentary macrocytic anemia in newborns, pernicious anemia, pellagra; prevention of folic acid deficiency in the body, including during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with nutritional deficiency.
Application
Inside after meals. For therapeutic purposes, adults are prescribed 0.001-0.002 g 1-3 times a day. Maximum daily dose: for adults 0.005 g; for children under 6 months - 40 mcg, 6-12 months - 60 mcg, 1 year-12 years - 100 mcg, over 12 years - 200 mcg. The course of treatment is 20-30 days.
Pregnant women are prescribed a dose of 400 mcg, and during breastfeeding - 300 mcg/day.
To prevent folate deficiency caused by nutritional deficiency, the drug is prescribed at a dose of 20-50 mcg/day.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to folic acid.
Side effects
The drug is usually well tolerated. Sometimes allergic reactions are possible.
Special instructions
Folic acid should be prescribed with other drugs: for sprue - in combination with ascorbic acid, cyanocobalamin, liver preparations; for pernicious anemia - with cyanocobalamin (since folic acid does not prevent the development of neurological complications, including follicular myelosis). Long-term use of the drug (especially in high doses) is not recommended due to the risk of reducing the concentration of cyanocobalamin in the blood. When treating with folic acid, it is necessary to systematically study the composition of peripheral blood.
Storage conditions
In a dry, dark place.
