General characteristics
By following a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle, you can make a big contribution to your health. However, sometimes you may need dietary supplements.
Folio® forte is recommended primarily for women planning pregnancy and during pregnancy. During this period of life, it is especially important to have a sufficient supply of B vitamins - folic acid and vitamin B12, as well as the trace element iodine. It is necessary to pay special attention to a varied and balanced diet, as well as a healthy lifestyle during pregnancy and lactation. However, it is not always easy to absorb the significantly increased needs for light-sensitive folic acid and difficult-to-access iodine exclusively through food. If you eat little food of animal origin, the intake of vitamin B12 into the body may be insufficient. Taking Folio® forte will ensure that you and your child have a balanced intake of these nutrients.
Active ingredients
Folic acid is the "pregnancy vitamin."
Folic acid is particularly important during pregnancy and lactation, as it plays an important role in all processes of cell division and contributes to the growth of maternal tissue during pregnancy. Therefore, it is important in the earliest stages of the developing life and must be at a sufficient level from the very beginning of pregnancy. Therefore, it is recommended to take a dietary supplement with folic acid when planning a pregnancy, before conception.
Other benefits of ensuring sufficient folic acid include its active participation in the normal functioning of the immune system, increasing balanced levels of homocysteine in the blood, and helping to reduce fatigue.
Sources:
leafy vegetables (such as spinach, broccoli, and lettuce), tomatoes, grains, yeast, eggs, and nuts.
Vitamin B12 - "helper vitamin"
Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) also plays an important role in the immune system and blood formation. In addition, this vitamin is important for the functioning of the nervous system and the regulation of the body's energy resources. Folic acid cannot perform its functions without vitamin B12. Because of this, both vitamins work in tandem with each other. In this regard, the content of vitamin B12 in the body is as important as a sufficient supply of folic acid.
Sources:
meat, fish and dairy products.
Vitamin D3 - the "sunshine vitamin"
Unlike most vitamins, vitamin D is produced by your body when you expose your skin to sunlight. It’s important to know that vitamin D functions like a hormone. Vitamin D is essential for building and maintaining strong bones by helping your body absorb calcium and phosphorus. Vitamin D also plays a role in cell division and supports the normal function of the immune system.
Sources:
the body's ability to produce vitamin D on its own; cod liver oil and fish.
Iodine is a trace element
Iodine is a vital trace element for the production of thyroid hormones. These hormones control the growth and development of all organs, the nervous system, brain, muscles and skeleton. In addition, iodine is an important nutrient for maintaining healthy skin and balancing energy resources.
Sources:
sea fish, shellfish, and to a lesser extent eggs and dairy products.
Indications for use
For optimal preparation for pregnancy, Folio® forte is recommended to be taken from the moment of planning pregnancy. Folio® forte contains 800 μg (mcg) of folic acid, which helps to quickly and reliably provide the necessary folate supply in the body. To ensure the increased needs for folic acid, vitamin D3, vitamin B12 and iodine during pregnancy, it is recommended to take the tablets until the end of the 12th week of pregnancy. Starting from the 13th week of pregnancy, it is recommended to ensure the supply of these nutrients by taking Folio® or Folio® + D3. During breastfeeding, newborns receive nutrients mainly from mother's milk, so Folio® or Folio® + D3 should be taken until the end of the lactation period.
