Composition

General characteristics

Folio is an original combination of folic acid and iodine, from the German company Sterifarm, specially developed for women planning pregnancy, pregnant and breastfeeding women, according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization.

In Ukraine, Folio is recommended for use by the Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Ukraine.

Properties

Doctors tell every woman planning a pregnancy, and especially an expectant mother, how important it is for her and her child to have a sufficient intake of iodine and folic acid in the body.

Folic acid is involved in hematopoiesis. Its deficiency leads to the accumulation of homocysteine in the blood plasma, which is an indicator of atherosclerotic changes. Folic acid deficiency during pregnancy can lead to fetal hypotrophy and prematurity, and also increases the risk of congenital malformations in the child: defects of the spinal cord and brain, heart, kidneys.

Iodine is necessary for the normal functioning of the thyroid gland, as it is a component of its hormones (thyroxine, triiodothyronine). With iodine deficiency, a pregnant woman and a newborn may develop endemic goiter, hypotrophy, and cretinism (incurable mental retardation).

The need for folic acid and iodine increases significantly during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and cannot be compensated in sufficient quantities even through a healthy and balanced diet. Therefore, in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine (order No. 417 of 15.07.2011), gynecologists, obstetricians and nutritionists prescribe 400 mcg of folic acid and 200 mcg of iodine daily for women of childbearing age, pregnant women and women who are breastfeeding. This corresponds to one Folio® tablet.

Recommendations for use

If you are planning a pregnancy, you should include folic acid and iodine in your diet — preferably no later than 4 weeks before the start of the planned pregnancy, and continue until at least 12 weeks of pregnancy.

If you have been taking contraceptives and are now planning a pregnancy, you should start taking folic acid and iodine immediately after stopping contraceptives.

Daily intake of Folio® will ensure optimal development of your child and improve the course of pregnancy.

Folio® is offered in a convenient dispenser pack of 150 tablets. This quantity is designed for 5 months of use.

Method of application

Adults take 1 tablet at breakfast with meals.

Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

Reservation

Increased individual sensitivity to individual components.

Individuals with thyroid disease, or those taking other iodine preparations, should consult a doctor before use.

Do not use as a substitute for a complete diet.

Storage conditions

In the original packaging in a dry place, protected from light and inaccessible to children at a temperature of 25°C.

Expiration date

5 years from the date of manufacture.
