Fotyl eye drops dropper bottle 5 ml

Fotil ® eye drops are used for the following indications:
treatment of open-angle glaucoma, aphakic and secondary glaucoma; as part of complex treatment for the treatment of glaucoma, for reducing intraocular pressure after ophthalmic operations, for the treatment of glaucoma after cataract removal and for reducing elevated intraocular pressure in patients for whom monotherapy is insufficient.Recommended for use only as prescribed by a doctor.
Composition
1 ml of eye drops contains (active ingredients):
pilocarpine hydrochloride - 20 mg; timolol maleate in terms of timolol - 5 mg.1 ml contains 36 drops.
One drop contains:
timolol - 0.14 mg; pilocarpine hydrochloride - 0.56 mg.Excipients: benzalkonium chloride; citric acid monohydrate; sodium citrate; hypromellose; water for injections.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any auxiliary component of the drug.
Beta-blockers (timolol) are contraindicated in patients with second- and third-degree atrioventricular block without a pacemaker, with sinus bradycardia, with weak sinus node syndrome, sinoatrial block, severe heart failure, cardiogenic shock, with reactive airway disease, including severe bronchial asthma or a history of severe bronchial asthma, with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Cholinergic drugs (pilocarpine) are contraindicated in acute iritis and in conditions where miosis should be avoided.
Method of application
It is recommended to start treatment with one drop in the affected eye 2 times a day. If this is not successful, you should switch to "Fotil ® forte" one drop in the affected eye 2 times a day. Further increase in dose usually does not further reduce intraocular pressure.
If intraocular pressure is not maintained at a satisfactory level when using the indicated dose of Fotil®, you can try to start combination treatment with dipivefrin and/or a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor.
Application features
Pregnant women
Pregnant women should not use Fotil® unless absolutely necessary.
β-blockers are excreted in breast milk. However, it is unlikely that at therapeutic doses of Fotil® there will be enough timolol to pass into breast milk to cause clinical symptoms of β-blockade in the infant. Systemic absorption may be reduced.
Children
The safety and efficacy of Fotil® eye drops in children have not been established in adequate and well-controlled studies. Due to insufficient data, the use of timolol in children can only be recommended for primary congenital and primary juvenile glaucoma during the transitional period when a decision is made to surgical treatment and in case of unsuccessful surgery when the patient is awaiting further treatment. When considering the treatment of pediatric patients with timolol, physicians should seriously assess the risks and benefits of this treatment. Before using timolol, it is necessary to collect a detailed history of the child and conduct a physical examination to determine the presence of systemic disorders.
Drivers
Miosis usually makes it difficult to adapt to the dark. Patients should be warned about driving in the dark. Timolol can lower blood pressure, in some patients it can cause temporary weakness and dizziness. The patient should be warned about this before starting treatment.
Overdose
The amount of timolol that can enter the bloodstream from one orally taken tablet (10 mg) is equivalent to the use of about 30 drops of "Fotil ®", but since the drops are rapidly absorbed into the mucous membrane of the eyes and nose, a few drops of "Fotil ®" are enough to cause arrhythmia, temporary slowing of the pulse rate, a decrease in arterial pressure, bronchospasm or heart failure. Overdose is treated symptomatically with adrenoceptor agonists, such as isoprenaline, dobutamine or possibly dopamine.
Side effects
The most common side effects of Fotil® eye drops are a transient burning and tingling sensation.
