Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Menthol has a local irritating, analgesic, distracting, antipruritic, antiseptic and sedative effect. The effect is mainly due to reflex reactions associated with irritation of sensitive nerve endings: irritation of skin receptors stimulates the formation and release of endogenous biologically active substances (enkephalins, endorphins, peptides, kinins), which are involved in the regulation of pain, vascular permeability and other processes that provide analgesic, distracting and antipruritic effects. The irritating (distracting) effect helps to reduce pain. The local effect is accompanied by vasoconstriction, a feeling of cold, which turns into a feeling of slight burning and tingling. Cutaneous-visceral reflexes improve tissue trophism (according to the innervation zones). Menthol reflexively changes the tone of blood vessels, both superficial and deep in tissues and internal organs.
Camphor has antiseptic, local irritant, analeptic, antiaggregatory effects. Reflexively stimulates the vasomotor and respiratory centers, exhibiting analeptic activity. Exhibits peripheral vasopressor activity. Inhibits platelet aggregation. Excreting from the body through the respiratory tract, it promotes expectoration. When applied topically, it exhibits distracting properties.
Thymol is an antiseptic and disinfectant. By destroying enzymes important for the viability of microorganisms, it prevents the spread of the putrefaction process and delays it if it has already begun.
Methyl salicylate has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. It non-selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase, reduces prostaglandin synthesis. Normalizes increased capillary permeability, improves microcirculation, reduces swelling and infiltration of inflamed tissues.
Eucalyptus oil has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effects, and when applied topically, it reduces sensitivity. Eucalyptus oil also stimulates cardiac activity.
Turpentine oil can be used topically to treat colds as a distracting and warming agent.
Indication
Inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract (rhinitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, tracheitis); muscle pain; joint pain.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, acetylsalicylic acid and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs; diseases and skin damage in the area of the intended application of the drug, including burns, eczema, dermatitis, pustular skin diseases; bronchial asthma, whooping cough, pseudocroup; epilepsy, tendency to seizures.
Special safety precautions
For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
If local irritation occurs, discontinue use and institute appropriate therapy. Always wash hands after use. Apply only to intact, healthy skin; do not apply to open wounds. Do not apply to mucous membranes. Persistent cough may be a sign of a serious illness. If cough persists for 1 week, tends to recur, or is accompanied by fever, rash, or persistent headache, consult a physician to review treatment. Do not use in cases of prolonged or chronic cough due to smoking, asthma, emphysema, or if cough is accompanied by excessive sputum production.
Do not apply the drug to large areas of skin.
Do not apply to the skin of the face, given the possibility of developing reflex bronchospasm.
It should be borne in mind that the drug leaves stains on the fabric with which it comes into contact.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions

Method of administration and doses
For respiratory diseases, apply 2-4 g of ointment to the skin in the chest and throat area and rub in. If desired, the application area can be covered with a warm, dry cloth, but it should not be applied tightly to allow the vapors to reach the nose and throat. For a runny nose or nasal congestion, apply a small amount of ointment to the skin of the wing of the nose and rub in lightly. For muscle and joint pain, apply the ointment to the muscle or joint area in a thick layer and rub in carefully. For best results, cover the area with a warm bandage.
The duration of treatment is determined individually depending on the severity of the disease and clinical effectiveness.

The drug should be used in children over 3 years of age.
Overdose
Possible increase in side effects, feeling of intense heat and burning; in case of accidental ingestion, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, symptoms of central nervous system depression, dizziness, ataxia, convulsions, hot flashes, drowsiness, difficulty breathing, reflex respiratory arrest. Symptomatic therapy.
