Pharmacological properties

Antiallergic agent for use in ophthalmology. Sodium cromoglycate, stabilizing the membranes of labrocytes, inhibits the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators. Most effective when used prophylactically. When applied topically, it is slightly absorbed, systemic bioavailability does not exceed 0.1%. Half-life - 5-10 min.

Polyvinyl alcohol, which is part of the drug, is used as a stabilizer and lubricant in artificial tear preparations and solutions for contact lens treatment, as well as in eye drops to increase their viscosity. Reduces the severity of dry eye syndrome, and also increases the contact time with sodium cromoglycate, increasing the duration of the antiallergic effect of the drug. Polyvinyl chloride is practically not absorbed into the systemic bloodstream and therefore does not cause systemic effects.

Indication

Acute and chronic allergic conjunctivitis, vernal keratoconjunctivitis, giant papillary conjunctivitis.

Application

Adults and children over 4 years of age are prescribed 1-2 drops of Lecrolin in each eye 4 times a day. The pipette contains a single dose of the drug for instillation into both eyes.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Side effects

The drug is usually well tolerated, but in some cases, after instillation, hyperemia or a transient burning sensation may occur. Benzalkonium chloride may cause allergic reactions.

Special instructions

Children from the age of 4 are prescribed. Lekrolin eye drops contain benzalkonium chloride as a preservative, which can settle on soft contact lenses. Contact lenses should be removed before instillation of the drug and inserted back after 15 minutes.

During pregnancy, it is prescribed only under strict indications. During breastfeeding, the effect on the child is unlikely due to the low systemic bioavailability of the drug.

At a temperature of 15-25 °C, the solution can be used for 1 month after opening the bottle.
