Description

Levasept solution for infusion is used to treat bacterial inflammatory processes in adults caused by bacteria sensitive to levofloxacin:

pneumonia; complicated urinary tract infections (including pyelonephritis); skin and soft tissue infections; chronic bacterial prostatitis.

Composition

Active ingredient: levofloxacin;

100 ml of solution contain levofloxacin hemihydrate equivalent to levofloxacin 500 mg;

Excipients: anhydrous glucose, concentrated hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, water for injections.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, CNS diseases (lowered seizure threshold, epilepsy), tendon damage associated with the use of quinolones.

Method of application

A sensitivity test must be performed before use.

Levofloxacin solution should be administered by slow infusion 1-2 times a day. The dose depends on the type and severity of the infection and the sensitivity of the pathogen. Usually, after a few days of treatment, if the patient's condition allows, it is possible to transfer it from the initial administration to oral administration (levofloxacin tablets 250 mg or 500 mg). The duration of treatment depends on the course of the disease and should not exceed 14 days. The administration of the drug should be continued for at least 48-72 hours after the disappearance of clinical signs of the disease. Levofloxacin, a solution for infusion, is intended only for slow administration, it should be used 1-2 times a day. The duration of administration should be at least 30 minutes for a dose of 250 mg or at least 60 minutes for a dose of 500 mg.

Application features

Pregnant women

The drug is contraindicated during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If pregnancy is diagnosed during treatment, the doctor should be informed.

Children

The use of the drug is contraindicated in children (under 18 years of age), as damage to articular cartilage cannot be ruled out.

Drivers

Patients who drive vehicles, work with machines and mechanisms should take into account possible adverse reactions from the nervous system (dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, visual and hearing impairment, movement disorders, including while walking).

Overdose

The most important expected symptoms of overdose concern the central nervous system (dizziness, impaired consciousness and convulsions); gastrointestinal reactions such as nausea and erosion of the mucous membranes. When using doses exceeding therapeutic, there is a prolongation of the QT interval. In case of overdose, careful monitoring of the patient, including ECG, is necessary.

Side effects

Infections and invasions: mycoses (and proliferation of other resistant microorganisms).

Interaction

Clinical pharmacology studies have demonstrated that no clinically significant effect on the pharmacokinetics of levofloxacin was caused when levofloxacin was used together with the following drugs: calcium carbonate, digoxin, glibenclamide, ranitidine.

Storage conditions

Store at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C in the original packaging.

Keep out of reach of children.

Shelf life - 3 years.
