Composition

active ingredients: iodine, potassium iodide;

1 g of solution contains 10 mg of iodine and 20 mg of potassium iodide;

Excipients: glycerin, purified water.

Dosage form

Solution.

Main physicochemical properties: transparent syrupy liquid of reddish-brown color with the smell of iodine.

Pharmacodynamics

Lugol's solution has a bactericidal effect due to the free iodine content in it. The drug has an antimicrobial effect on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including streptococci, staphylococci, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, and Proteus vulgaris.

Indication

Inflammatory diseases of the mucous membranes of the pharynx and larynx: laryngitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Severe liver and kidney diseases, severe hyperthyroidism, decompensated heart, kidney or liver failure; examination or therapy with radioactive iodine (2 weeks before and after the examination or therapy).

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions

Do not use simultaneously with hydrogen peroxide solution and other disinfectants.

Application features

The drug is not intended for oral administration. Do not inhale and/or swallow the drug. Do not allow the drug to get into the eyes. Use with caution in laryngitis due to the possibility of laryngospasm; in tuberculosis, hemorrhagic diatheses.
You should not violate the rules for using the medicine - this can harm your health.

Ability to influence reaction speed when driving vehicles or other mechanisms

Method of administration and doses

For external use!
Lubricate the affected mucous membranes of the pharynx and larynx with a swab moistened with the preparation 3–4 times a day.
The duration of the treatment course depends on the course of the disease and its severity.

Children

Do not use in children under 5 years of age.

Overdose

Iodism may occur (runny nose, urticaria, angioedema, lacrimation, salivation, rash, muscle weakness, lethargy).
Treatment: Immediate discontinuation of the drug and symptomatic therapy.

Adverse reactions

With prolonged use, symptoms of iodism may appear (runny nose, urticaria, angioedema, lacrimation, drooling, skin rashes, muscle weakness, lethargy).

Expiration date

3 years.
The drug cannot be used after the expiration date indicated on the package.

Storage conditions

Store at a temperature not exceeding 25 ºС in a place inaccessible to children.
