General properties
MECHANISM OF ACTION:
MAKROLAX contains Macrogol 3350, an inert substance that is not absorbed in the intestine, does not irritate the mucous membrane, is not fermented and is excreted unchanged from the digestive tract. Macrolagus retains water in the intestine, forming hydrogen bonds with water molecules. Water dilutes and increases the intestinal contents, which leads to softening of fecal masses and natural stimulation of peristalsis. The drug is not absorbed or metabolized, it is completely evacuated from the intestine along with the contents in an unchanged form.
Indications for use
MACROLAX is indicated for bowel cleansing before:
endoscopic and radiological examinations; abdominal ultrasound examinations; intestinal surgeries.Contraindication
MACROLAX is not indicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, dehydration, severe heart failure, stenosis or occlusion of the intestine, dynamic ileus, acute or severe colitis, megacolon, intestinal perforation, gastric stasis, intestinal obstruction, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), patients weighing less than 20 kg or younger than 2 years.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other interactions
MAKROLAX® accelerates the transit of feces through the intestines and may affect the absorption of any oral medications taken at the same time. After taking other oral medications, wait at least 2 hours before taking MAKROLAX. If you are being treated with anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents or diabetes medications, consult your doctor or endoscopist for possible dosage adjustment.
Recommendations for use
For complete bowel cleansing, for immediate preparation of an oral suspension, the contents of 2 sachets should be poured into 1 liter of water, shaken well until a homogeneous solution is obtained. The drug should be taken within 1-2 hours, drinking 250 ml every 10-15 minutes until the first liter is finished. Additionally, drink 500 ml of water (half a liter) to make a total of 1.5 liters (1 liter of the drug and 500 ml of water).
After approximately 1 hour, repeat the dose with 2 sachets per 1 liter of water, and then, as indicated above, drink another 500 ml of water (1 liter of the drug and 500 ml of water). The total volume of fluid should be 3 liters.
After the first liter, the intestines will begin to move and stimulate evacuation. The stool will gradually become liquid until a clear liquid without fecal residues is released. This means that the cleansing has been carried out correctly and the intestines are ready for examination. As a rule, there is no discomfort or abdominal pain associated with the use of the drug.
WARNING
The oral suspension should be prepared immediately before use. If not used within the specified time, the solution should be stored in a refrigerator and used within 24 hours of preparation. No other ingredients should be added to the ready-to-use solution.
There is no experience with the use of Macrolax during pregnancy and breastfeeding, so use only after consulting a doctor.
Side effects
Gastrointestinal upset, bowel sounds, abdominal pain and nausea may occur before defecation. If these symptoms become intense, take the medicine more slowly, thereby reducing the symptoms. In rare cases, hypersensitivity and allergic reactions (skin rash and hives) may occur. If you experience any side effects, tell your doctor or pharmacist.
