Medexol is an anti-inflammatory agent used in ophthalmology for the treatment of steroid-sensitive non-infectious inflammatory and allergic conditions of the conjunctiva, cornea, and anterior segment of the eye, including inflammatory reactions in the postoperative period.
Warehouse
1 ml of solution contains 1 mg of dexamethasone sodium phosphate; excipients: polysorbate 80; hypromellose; sodium chloride; disodium phosphate, dodecahydrate; citric acid, monohydrate; benzalkonium chloride; disodium edetate; water for injections.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to the active substance and/or to other components of the medicinal product.
Acute untreated bacterial infections.
Cowpox and chickenpox and other viral infections of the cornea and conjunctiva (except keratitis caused by Herpes zoster).
Fungal diseases of the eye structures.
Method of application
Adults (including the elderly).
In severe or acute inflammation, 1–2 drops of the drug should be instilled into the conjunctival sac(s) of the affected eye(s) every 30–60 minutes (initial therapy).
In case of a positive effect, the dose should be reduced to 1–2 drops of the drug in the conjunctival sac(s) of the affected eye(s) every 2–4 hours.
The dose can then be reduced to 1 drop of the medication 3–4 times a day if this dose is sufficient to control inflammation.
If the desired result is not achieved within 3–4 days, additional systemic or subconjunctival therapy may be prescribed.
In chronic inflammation, the dose is 1–2 drops of the drug into the conjunctival sac(s) of the affected eye(s) every 3–6 hours or more often if necessary.
For allergies or minor inflammation, the dose is 1–2 drops of the drug into the conjunctival sac(s) of the affected eye(s) every 3–4 hours until the desired effect is achieved.
Application features
The drug is intended for topical ophthalmic use only. It should not be used for injection or internally.
Pregnant women
The medicine is not recommended for use during pregnancy.
Children
The safety and efficacy of the drug in children (under 18 years of age) have not been established.
Drivers
Dexamethasone topical ophthalmic has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines. As with other ophthalmic agents, temporary blurred vision or other visual disturbances may affect the ability to drive and use machines.
If blurred vision occurs during instillation, the patient should wait until vision clears before driving or operating machinery.
Overdose
No cases of overdose have been reported. In case of acute overdose in ophthalmic use or in case of accidental ingestion of the contents of the vial, no additional toxic effects should be expected, given the properties/characteristics of this medicinal product.
Side effects
Infections and infestations: eye infection (exacerbation or secondary).
Immune system disorders: hypersensitivity reactions.
On the part of the endocrine system: Cushing's syndrome, adrenal suppression.
From the nervous system: dysgeusia, dizziness, headache.
Storage conditions
Store at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C out of the reach of children.
After opening the bottle, the medicine can be used for 28 days.
