Method of application

To achieve the desired functional result that you want to achieve when using an elastic compression bandage, it is important to adhere to the following requirements for elastic bandaging of the lower extremities:

The elastic bandage should be applied in the morning before getting out of bed, preferably while lying in bed. The bandage should be applied with the foot dorsiflexed, in even rolls without folds, to avoid trauma to the skin during movement. Always start applying the bandage from the proximal joints of the toes and ensure that the heel is wrapped around the heel and the bandage roll is closed to prevent the bandage from slipping off when walking. The bandage roll should be rolled outwards in close proximity to the skin to avoid overstretching the bandage and creating too much compression. Each roll of the bandage should overlap the previous one by 30-50%. To improve the fixation of elastic bandages on the limb, especially on the thigh, the bandage should be applied alternately in the ascending and descending directions, forming a "herringbone" pattern. The proximal edge of the compression should be 10-15 cm above the valve area of the limb segment. When applying an elastic bandage to areas of natural deformation (ankle joint area), it is necessary to model the cylindrical profile of the limb using latex and foam rollers.

When the compression bandage is applied correctly, the fingertips turn slightly blue at rest and regain their normal color at the beginning of movement. After applying the elastic bandage, the patient is asked to remain still for 20-30 minutes. Numbness of the toes, a feeling of pulsation under the bandage, and pain indicate that the level of compression of the elastic bandage is incorrect and the bandage needs to be adjusted.
