The sterile surgical scalpel (size 24) from TM Medicare is intended for all types of surgical interventions in medical and preventive institutions.

Basic information

A scalpel consists of a blade, cutting edge, blade tip, shank, neck, and handle. Scalpels can be of one-piece or composite construction. In a one-piece construction, all parts are a single unit made of the same material. In a composite construction, the product is a combination of metal and plastic parts, for example, a disposable scalpel. The latter are increasingly used, replacing solid scalpels.

Different types of scalpels have different proportions of ingredients, which determines the appearance of the scalpel and its purpose.

Depending on the size of the blade, the following types of scalpels are distinguished:

Microsurgical scalpel – for performing precise surgical operations under a microscope; Delicate scalpel – for precise tissue dissection (in otolaryngology, ophthalmology, urology, maxillofacial and aesthetic surgery); Standard surgical scalpel – for operations in abdominal and thoracic surgery; Standard anatomical scalpel – for dissection in human anatomy, topographic anatomy, operative surgery, forensic medicine and pathological anatomy, as well as for practicing surgical techniques; Special scalpels – for performing curved incisions.

Stainless steel is used to make scalpels. Disposable scalpels do not require high corrosion resistance, so they are made of hardened chromium steel for cold stamping. Reusable scalpels have a higher chromium content (95Cr18), or a more complex alloying (X12MF). Scalpel blades for ophthalmic operations are usually made of leucosapphire or ceramics, stellite with a thick diamond coating. Due to the high cost, they must be reusable.
