Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics. Menovalen is a combined preparation of plant origin with a mild sedative effect due to its components - valerian and peppermint. It has a weak sedative effect, indicated for reducing mild transient nervous tension during mental exertion, excitement, and irritability.
Valerian has a sedative effect, has a positive effect on well-being with symptoms of irritability, such as restlessness, excitement and tension due to nervous overload. The drug helps you fall asleep faster.
Peppermint is traditionally used in combination with valerian in sedative preparations.
The drug is used for neuroses when taking strong sedatives is inappropriate.

Indication
Neuroses accompanied by the following symptoms:
nervous excitement; anxiety; decreased concentration; sleep disturbances.Application
Menovalen is prescribed to adults and children over 12 years of age, 1 capsule 3 times a day, 30 minutes before meals.
In the initial form of insomnia, the drug is used 1-2 capsules 1-1.5 hours before bedtime.
The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor individually, but usually it is 3-4 weeks. If the condition does not improve within 14 days of starting treatment, you should consult a doctor.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to valerian, peppermint or other components of the drug; severe arterial hypotension; depression or other conditions accompanied by central nervous system depression, severe drowsiness.
Side effects
CNS: headache, dizziness, lethargy, drowsiness, suppression of emotional reactions, depression, general weakness, decreased mental and physical performance, concentration of attention; in some cases - mental agitation, anxiety, insomnia.
Cardiovascular system: arterial hypotension, feeling of pressure behind the sternum, feeling of palpitations, heart pain, heart rhythm disturbances (including bradycardia, tachycardia).
Digestive tract: dyspeptic phenomena, heartburn, nausea, diarrhea, cramps and pain in the abdominal cavity, with prolonged use, inhibition of the digestive process and constipation are possible.
Hepatobiliary system: possible manifestations of hepatotoxicity.
Immune system: possible manifestations of hypersensitivity reactions, including skin rashes, itching, urticaria, hyperemia, edema, shortness of breath, asthma.
Adverse reactions occur rarely, are reversible, and usually develop when the drug is used for a long time and the recommended doses are significantly exceeded.
If any adverse reactions occur, you should stop taking the drug and be sure to consult a doctor.
Special instructions
Do not exceed the recommended doses of the drug.
When using the drug, it is necessary to refrain from drinking alcohol.
Patients with impaired liver function or a history of severe liver disease, and individuals with gallstone disease should exercise caution when taking the drug.
Since the preparation contains peppermint, patients with gastroesophageal reflux, achlorhydria, hiatal hernia should avoid using the preparation due to possible exacerbation of the symptoms of the disease. It should be used with caution in asthma.
Valerian can have a moderate depressive effect, so simultaneous administration of the drug with synthetic sedatives is not recommended due to potentiation of the effect.
In case of severe atherosclerosis of cerebral vessels, the drug can be used only under the supervision of a physician.
The capsule cap and body contain the dye diamond black BN (E151), which may cause allergic reactions.
Specific sensitivity to the smell of valerian and mint is possible.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is not recommended to use the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to insufficient data on the safety of its use during these periods.
Children. Menovalen is not used in children under 12 years of age.
Ability to influence the reaction rate when driving or operating machinery. When using the drug, you should refrain from driving or operating machinery due to the sedative effect of the drug.
Interactions
The drug may enhance the effect of tranquilizers (including chlordiazepoxide, diazepam), sedatives, hypnotics (including phenobarbital, zopiclone, zolpidem), anxiolytics, antispasmodics, centrally acting antihypertensives, analgesics, neuroleptics, ethanol, nootropics, anesthetics, curare.
Concomitant use with synthetic sedatives is not recommended. Concomitant use with ethanol should also be avoided.
Overdose
Symptoms: possible increased fatigue, general weakness, photosensitivity, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, abdominal cramps and pain, nausea, feeling of pressure behind the sternum, tachycardia/bradycardia, hand tremor and pupil dilation, decreased hearing and vision acuity, increased severity of other adverse reactions.
Treatment: stop using the drug and be sure to consult a doctor.
If necessary, rinse the stomach, take activated charcoal, and carry out symptomatic therapy.
