Composition
1 capsule contains: active ingredients: extract of turmeric rhizome and boswellia resin (NovaSOL® Curcumin Boswellia) – 829.566 mg (mg) (containing min. 3% curcuminoids and min. 6% boswellic acids), undenatured collagen type II (UC-II®) – 20.0 mg (mg), Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) – 7.5 μg (µg) (corresponding to 300 IU); excipients: emulsifiers: polysorbates (E433, E432), stabilizer: potassium chloride (E508); capsule shell: hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (E464).

Properties
UNDENATURED COLLAGEN TYPE II UC-II®. The difference between undenatured collagen type II UC-II® and denatured (or hydrolyzed) is the preservation of the three-dimensional configuration of the molecule itself (undenatured collagen type II) and the presence of active epitopes. It is believed that undenatured collagen type II UC-II®, when administered orally, penetrates from the intestinal lumen into the intestinal Peyer's patches and promotes the formation of specialized regulatory T lymphocytes (T-regulators), which are able to produce anti-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin-10 (IL-10), interleukin-4 (IL-4) and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β). These cytokines are able to penetrate into the synovial fluid of the joint through the circulatory system of the synovium and subchondral bone.
Anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-10, IL-4, TGF-β are able to suppress inflammation and improve cartilage metabolism. IL-10 acts on receptors of macrophages and synoviocytes, inhibiting the release of interleukin-1 (IL-1). TGF-β stimulates the synthesis of the intercellular substance (matrix) of cartilage by inhibiting the catabolic activity of chondrocytes (which led to the breakdown of collagen and other extracellular matrix proteins) and activating the anabolic function and proliferation of chondrocytes. In addition, IL-10 and TGF-β contribute to an increase in the production of interleukin-4 (IL-4). This contributes to the switching of chondrocyte metabolism towards the synthesis of intercellular matrix components.
Studies have shown1,2,3 that taking 40 mg (mg) of UC-II® undenatured collagen type II daily can help relieve joint discomfort and restore healthy joint function and flexibility. Studies2 have also shown that taking 40 mg (mg) of UC-II® undenatured collagen type II daily for 90 days for certain conditions (e.g., those requiring cartilage repair) may result in greater improvements than taking a glucosamine (1500 mg (mg)/day) and chondroitin (1200 mg (mg)/day) complex.
UC-II® undenatured collagen type II helps reduce inflammation in the joints and improve articular cartilage metabolism.
MERKANA® ACTIVE contains a patented complex of turmeric rhizome extract and boswellia resin NovaSOL® Curcumin Boswellia. NovaSOL® is a patented German technology for placing poorly soluble substances in 30-nanometer micelles, which thus acquire lipophilic and hydrophilic (both fat- and water-soluble, or amphiphilic) properties. NovaSOL® technology increases the absorption rate and bioavailability of the ingredients placed in the micelles. Up to 185 times greater bioavailability and up to 455 times higher maximum blood concentration of curcumin have been shown when administered orally in micellar form compared to native curcumin4. It has also been shown that the most active component of boswellia extract, acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid (AKBA), is 56 times more bioavailable when dissolved in micelles than when taken orally.
BOSWELLIA EXTRACT, a component of MERCAN® ACTIVE, is obtained from the resin of the Boswellia serrata plant. The components of Boswellia serrata resin are known as a powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic agent. The main active ingredients of Boswellia serrata are boswellic acids, the main of which are six acids: acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid (AKBA), 11-keto-β-boswellic acid, α-boswellic acid, β-boswellic acid, acetyl-α-boswellic acid and acetyl-β-boswellic acid.
Studies have shown that these acids are able to inhibit a number of key inflammatory enzymes (5-lipoxygenase (5-LO), cathepsin G (catG) and microsomal prostaglandin E synthase (mPGES) - 1), as well as the transcription factor nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) and several pro-inflammatory cytokines (tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), interleukin-2 (IL-2) and interleukin-6 (IL-6)).
Acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid (AKBA) is the most active compound in boswellia extract and is a potent inhibitor of 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO), a key enzyme in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes from arachidonic acid in the cellular inflammatory cascade. Several clinical studies have confirmed the anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic properties of boswellia extract.
Curcumin is the most active ingredient in turmeric extract, which is used as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agent. Studies have demonstrated its anti-inflammatory properties in the form of inhibition of the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (interleukins IL-1, IL-6, etc.), tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α), inhibition of transcriptional nuclear factor κB (NF-κB), inhibition of pro-inflammatory enzymes (cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), which leads to a decrease in the level of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and nitric oxide (NO).
Thus, natural extracts of turmeric and boswellia are well known for their anti-inflammatory activity.
VITAMIN D3 (CHOLECALCIFEROL). Active forms of vitamin D are involved in the regulation of phosphorus-calcium metabolism. Vitamin D stimulates the absorption of calcium and phosphate ions by the intestinal wall, stimulates the reabsorption of calcium and phosphate in the renal tubules. Vitamin D is necessary for the functioning of the parathyroid glands, intestines, kidneys and for ensuring the mineralization of bone tissue. The concentration of calcium ions affects a number of important biochemical processes that maintain skeletal muscle tone, participate in the conduction of nervous excitation and affect blood clotting. Studies have also shown the ability of vitamin D to reduce the erosion of articular cartilage, reduce the level of enzymes that destroy cartilage and bone collagen (matrix metalloproteinases 9 and 13 (MMP-9 and MMP-13)) with a simultaneous increase in the level of transforming growth factor (TGF-β1). Certain clinical studies have shown a reduction in discomfort and improvement in knee joint function with the use of vitamin D. Vitamin D also contributes to normal muscle function.
MERKANA® ACTIVE capsules are manufactured using a special liquid-containing hard capsule technology Licaps®, which protects the capsule contents from leakage and external influences. In addition, the Licaps® capsule shell ensures faster dissolution in the stomach, which accelerates the absorption of the capsule contents.
Indications for use
MERCANA® ACTIVE is recommended as a dietary supplement to the diet as an additional source of undenatured collagen type II (UC-II®), curcuma longa extract, boswellia serrata resin and vitamin D (cholecalciferol) in order to improve the condition of the joints, normalize their functioning, in particular, during physical exertion, age-related degenerative changes in the joints, with manifestations of osteoarthritis, osteochondrosis. It helps eliminate inflammation and reduce joint stiffness, improve their mobility and flexibility.
Method of administration and doses
Adults should take 2 capsules once a day or 1 capsule twice a day 2 hours before or 2 hours after meals, with a glass of water. It is recommended to consult a doctor before use. The minimum course of consumption is 10 days, if necessary, the course can be repeated.
On the recommendation of a doctor, consumption can be continued for 6 months.

Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. MERKANA® ACTIVE should not be used as a substitute for a balanced diet. If the capsule is accidentally chewed, temporary yellow discoloration of the mucous membranes is possible, which disappears on its own after a certain time.
