Composition

active ingredient: 1 tablet contains DL-methionine 250 mg;

excipients: potato starch, colloidal anhydrous silicon dioxide, calcium stearate, polysorbate;

shell: sugar, light magnesium carbonate, povidone, colloidal anhydrous silicon dioxide, talc, titanium dioxide (E 171), Ponceau 4R dye (E 124), yellow wax, light mineral oil.

Dosage form

Film-coated tablets.

Main physicochemical properties: round tablets with a biconvex surface, covered with a pink coating. Two layers are visible on the cross section. Imperfections are allowed on the surface of the tablets.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics.

Methionine is an essential amino acid that participates in the processes of transmethylation. It has a lipotropic effect, promotes the synthesis of choline, phospholipids; participates in the synthesis of adrenaline, creatine; activates the action of hormones, vitamins, enzymes. It has detoxifying properties due to the ability to methylate toxic products. It reduces the concentration of cholesterol in the blood and increases the content of phospholipids.

Pharmacokinetics.

Easily absorbed from the intestines. As an essential sulfur-containing amino acid, it is used for protein synthesis and enters into various metabolic reactions - permethylation, deamination, decarboxylation. It is excreted in urine in small amounts.

Indication

Treatment and prevention of diseases and toxic lesions of the liver: toxic hepatitis, alcoholic hepatopathy, cirrhosis of the liver, poisoning with arsenic preparations, chloroform, benzene and hepatotoxic substances.

It is the basis of combination therapy for chronic alcoholism, diabetes mellitus, for the treatment of dystrophy that develops with protein deficiency after dysentery and infectious diseases, atherosclerosis, during severe surgical operations, and burns.

Contraindication

Acute viral hepatitis, hepatic encephalopathy, severe liver failure, hypersensitivity to the drug.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions

The use of Methionine in a balanced ratio with other amino acids prevents its toxic effects.

Application features

In acute and chronic renal failure, caution should be exercised due to the risk of hyperazotemia. Unbalanced use of methionine in large doses can lead to damage to liver cells.

Due to the unpleasant odor, children should take the medicine with sweet syrup or jelly.

The medicine contains sugar, which should be taken into account by patients with diabetes.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding

During pregnancy or breastfeeding, the use of the drug is possible only if the benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus/child.

Ability to influence reaction speed when driving vehicles or other mechanisms

Method of administration and doses

Adults should be prescribed 500-1500 mg 3-4 times a day.

Single doses for children: at the age of 3-6 years - 250 mg, from the age of 7 years - 500 mg.

The frequency of administration is 3-4 times a day.

The medicine should be taken 30 minutes to 1 hour before meals.

The course of treatment is 10-30 days or 10 days with 10-day breaks between these courses.

Children: This dosage form should not be used in children under 3 years of age.

Overdose

Symptoms: possible hypotension, tachycardia, disorientation.

Treatment: gastric lavage, administration of activated charcoal, symptomatic therapy.

Side effects

Gastrointestinal: nausea, vomiting.
