Metronidazole-Health tablets are used for infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to the drug:
amebiasis; urogenital trichomoniasis; nonspecific vaginitis; giardiasis; surgical infections caused by anaerobic microorganisms sensitive to metronidazole; replacement of intravenous treatment of infections caused by anaerobic microorganisms sensitive to metronidazole.
Composition
One tablet contains (active ingredient) metronidazole 250 mg.
Excipients: pregelatinized starch, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, croscarmellose sodium, microcrystalline cellulose, stearic acid.
Contraindication
hypersensitivity to metronidazole or to drugs of the imidazole group, or to other components of the drug; age up to 6 years, which is due to the dosage form.
Method of application
For amebiasis, take the drug continuously for 7 days.
Recommended dosage:
adults - 1.5 g per day, i.e. 500 mg (two tablets) 3 times a day; children aged 6 and over - 30-40 mg/kg of body weight per day in 3 doses.
In the event of a liver abscess due to amebiasis, drainage or aspiration of pus should be performed simultaneously with metronidazole therapy.
Treat giardiasis for 5 days.
Recommended dosage:
Adults should be prescribed 750 mg - 1 g of the drug per day; children aged 6-10 years - 375 mg/day; children aged 10-15 years - 500 mg per day.
To achieve the prescribed dosage, use metronidazole in the appropriate dosage or other dosage forms.
For trichomoniasis in women (urethritis and vaginitis caused by Trichomonas), the drug is prescribed for a course of treatment for 10 days, combining 250 mg (one tablet) 2 times a day and one vaginal suppository (500 mg) per day. The sexual partner should be treated at the same time, regardless of the presence or absence of clinical signs of Trichomonas infection, even if the result of laboratory tests is negative.
For trichomoniasis in men (urethritis caused by Trichomonas), the drug is prescribed for a course of treatment for 10 days: 250 mg (one tablet) 2 times a day.

For nonspecific vaginitis, prescribe 500 mg (two tablets) of the drug 2 times a day for 7 days. The sexual partner should be treated at the same time.
For the treatment of anaerobic infections (first-line therapy or replacement therapy), adults are prescribed 1-1.5 g (4-6 tablets) of the drug per day, children over 6 years old - 20-30 mg/kg of body weight per day, in two doses.

Pregnant women
No teratogenic effects have been observed in animals. Since no teratogenic effects have been observed in animals, no malformations are expected in humans. According to the data, substances that cause malformations in humans have a teratogenic effect in animals. From a clinical point of view, there was no fetotoxic effect on pregnancy. However, more data are needed to confirm the absence of risk. Therefore, metronidazole should be prescribed during pregnancy only if necessary, when the benefit of the drug outweighs the potential risk.
Metronidazole passes into breast milk. The drug should not be used during breastfeeding.
Children
The drug in the form of 250 mg tablets can be used in children aged 6 years and older.
Drivers
Persons who drive vehicles and work with complex mechanisms should be aware of the possible occurrence of confusion, dizziness, hallucinations, seizures, or visual disturbances while taking this drug and should refrain from driving vehicles and working with other mechanisms during treatment.
Overdose
Taking a single dose of no more than 12 g has been observed in suicidal attempts and accidental overdose.
Symptoms included vomiting, ataxia and mild disorientation. There is no specific antidote. In case of significant overdose, symptomatic treatment should be provided.
Side effects
Gastrointestinal: minor gastrointestinal disorders (epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea): glossitis with dry mouth, stomatitis, taste disturbance, anorexia; pancreatitis, which is reversible after discontinuation of the drug.
On the part of the skin and its appendages: flushing, itching of the skin, skin rash, in some cases accompanied by an increase in body temperature; urticaria, angioedema, anaphylactic shock; very rare cases of acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis.
Nervous system: headache, peripheral sensory neuropathy, convulsions, dizziness, confusion; cases of encephalopathy and subacute cerebellar syndrome (ataxia, dysarthria, gait disturbance, nystagmus, tremor), which may resolve after discontinuation of the drug; aseptic meningitis.
On the part of the organs of vision: temporary disturbances of visual functions, such as diplopia, myopia, blurred vision, decreased visual acuity, changes in color vision; neuropathy/optic neuritis.
On the part of the psyche: hallucinations, psychotic reactions with paranoia and/or delusions, which in some cases may be accompanied by the emergence of suicidal thoughts or suicide attempts; depressed mood.
Hepatobiliary disorders: liver function tests abnormal, cholestatic or mixed hepatitis (sometimes accompanied by jaundice).
