Pharmacological properties

Oftolik is a drug that has a protective effect on the cornea of the eye when the secretion of tear fluid is reduced, provides the necessary moisturizing effect, being in prolonged contact with the cornea of the eye. The main component is polyvinyl alcohol, exhibits properties similar to the properties of mucin (a substance produced by the conjunctiva of the eye). In combination with povidone, it provides an increased lubricating effect, which reduces the severity of irritation and dryness of the eye surface. Thickening of the tear film provides a soothing effect on the eye in case of changes in the properties of mucin, for example, with colds, bacterial, fungal and inflammatory eye lesions. The protective function of the thickened tear layer is especially noticeable in injuries and erosions of the conjunctiva and cornea. It does not have a systemic effect.

Indication

Keratoconjunctivitis sicca and other diseases accompanied by dry eye syndrome.

Application

Adults and children over 7 years old: 1-2 drops in the conjunctival sac of each eye 3-4 times a day. The course of treatment is 14-21 days. Repeated courses of treatment, changes in the duration of the course are determined by the doctor.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug, age up to 7 years.

Side effects

Immediately after instillation, short-term blurred vision, a tingling sensation and local eye irritation, and an allergic reaction may occur.

Special instructions

Soft contact lenses should not be worn during treatment. Hard contact lenses should be removed before using eye drops and reinserted no earlier than 20 minutes later.

If more than one type of eye drops is prescribed at the same time, they must be applied with an interval of at least 15-20 minutes, with Oftalik always instilled last.

The use of the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been studied, therefore it is permissible only if the therapeutic effect for the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus or infant.

Since a short-term decrease in visual acuity is possible immediately after instillation of the drug, it is necessary to wait until visual acuity is fully restored before driving a car or working with mechanisms.

Interactions

Prolongs the absorption of other ophthalmic drugs (adrenomimetics, antibiotics, β-blockers, corticosteroids, etc.).

Storage conditions

In a dry place, protected from light, at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C. Do not freeze! After first opening the bottle, the shelf life is 1 month.
