Composition
1 capsule contains: methylsulfonylmethane - 400 mg (mg), serratiopeptidase - 10 mg (mg), which is equivalent to 40,000 IU.
Ingredients: methylsulfonylmethane, microcrystalline cellulose, serratiopeptidase, anti-caking agents: calcium stearate, silicon dioxide; capsule shell: gelatin.
Properties
Methylsulfonylmethane is an organosulfur compound. Dietary sources include cruciferous vegetables, garlic, onions, asafoetida, legumes, nuts, seeds, plant-based milk, animal-based milk, and eggs (whites and yolks).
Sulfur is found in all cells of the body and is necessary for their normal functioning. Sulfur participates in the synthesis of connective tissue, inhibits the process of lipid peroxidation and the synthesis of inflammatory mediators, therefore it has clinical significance in inflammatory processes and participates in reparative processes. Sulfur provides regeneration of damaged tissues and skin areas, is effective in combating age-related changes - facial wrinkles - due to its effect on skin turgor and elasticity. Methylsulfonylmethane is useful for allergies and inflammation of the mucous membrane and gastrointestinal diseases.
Serratiopeptidase (Serratiopeptidase E-15) is a proteolytic enzyme (protease) produced by the enterobacteria Serratia sp. E-15, now known as Serratia marcescens ATCC 21074.
One of the important properties of serratiopeptidase is its fibrinolytic activity, as well as anti-inflammatory and anti-edematous effects. In addition to reducing the inflammatory process, serratiopeptidase reduces pain by blocking the release of pain amines from inflamed tissues.
The review article prepared by the editorial board of the journal "Ukrainian Medical Journal" No. 6 (68) XI-XII 2008 "Enzyme therapy of inflammatory diseases. Serrapeptase" presents general information about an alternative direction in the treatment of inflammatory diseases - systemic enzyme therapy. The main results of experimental and clinical studies, including randomized controlled trials, with the use of the anti-inflammatory enzyme preparation serrapeptase are highlighted.
Mechanism of action. Serratiopeptidase binds in a 1:1 ratio to blood alpha-2-macroglobulin, which masks its antigenicity but retains its enzymatic activity. Then, gradually, at the site of inflammation, it passes into the exudate and, accordingly, its level in the blood decreases.
Serratiopeptidase directly reduces capillary dilation and controls capillary permeability by hydrolyzing bradykinin, histamine, and serotonin. Serratiopeptidase also blocks plasmin inhibitors, thereby enhancing the fibrinolytic activity of plasmin. By proteolysis of sputum structural proteins, it improves the rheological properties of sputum and promotes its clearance.
The enzymatic activity of serratiopeptidase is 10 times higher than that of alpha-chymotrypsin. In the focus of chronic inflammation, serratiopeptidase helps to reduce the level of mediators of inflammation and pain; hydrolyzes fibrin, preventing the formation of adhesions, improves microcirculation in the focus of chronic inflammation, thereby improving the bioavailability of antibiotics, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and other drugs. It does not have a significant effect on proteins of a living organism, such as albumin, alpha- and gamma-globulin. It does not break down fibrinogen, therefore it does not have a significant effect on blood clotting processes.
Recommendations for use
It can be recommended as a source of organosulfur compounds and the enzyme serratiopeptidase.
Method of application
Adults take 1-2 capsules 2 times a day after meals.
Duration of use: 3-6 months. Further use and the possibility of repetition should be agreed with the doctor.
