Composition

active ingredient: oxolin;

1 g of ointment contains 2.5 mg of oxolin;

excipients: polyethylene glycol 4000; stearyl alcohol; glycerin; citric acid, monohydrate; dimethicone; lavender essential oil; propylene glycol.

Dosage form

Ointment.

Main physicochemical properties: white or light yellow ointment. A pinkish tint may appear during storage.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics.

Oxolin is an antiviral agent for external use, has virucidal activity, blocking the binding sites of the influenza virus (mostly type A2) with the surface of the cell membrane, protecting cells from virus penetration. Herpes simplex viruses, herpes zoster, adenoviruses, viruses of infectious warts and molluscum contagiosum are also sensitive to the action of oxolin.

Pharmacokinetics.

The drug is non-toxic, with local application no systemic effect was detected, it does not accumulate in the body. When applied to the mucous membrane, 20% is absorbed, and it is excreted mainly by the kidneys within 24 hours.

Indication

Flu prevention; treatment of viral rhinitis.

Contraindication

Individual hypersensitivity to the active substance or to other components of the drug.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions

Simultaneous intranasal use with adrenomimetic agents may lead to drying of the nasal mucosa.

Application features

The ointment is not intended for application to the mucous membrane of the eyes. The drug should not be applied to damaged skin.

OXOLINE LAVENDER contains propylene glycol, which may cause skin irritation.

Stearyl alcohol may cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis).

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

There are no safety data, so it is not recommended to use the drug during such periods.

The ability to influence the reaction speed when driving vehicles or other mechanisms.

The drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and other potentially dangerous mechanisms.

Method of administration and doses

For flu prevention: apply to the nasal mucosa 2–3 times a day for 25 days or when in contact with sick people.

Treatment of viral rhinitis: apply to the nasal mucosa 2–3 times a day for 3–4 days.

Children.

There are no data on the safety and efficacy of the drug in children.

Overdose

Cases of overdose are unknown. In case of overdose, burning sensation, irritation of the skin and mucous membranes at the site of application of the drug and rhinorrhea are possible. Hypersensitivity reactions.

Treatment: stop using the drug, wash off the remaining ointment with warm water.

Side effects

At the site of application of the ointment, a burning sensation may occur, which quickly passes, rhinorrhea, and blue discoloration of the mucous membrane. Hypersensitivity reactions may develop.

2 years. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging.

Store at a temperature of 2 °C to 15 °C. After opening the tube, store at a temperature of 2 °C to 8 °C. Keep out of the reach of children.
