Composition
active ingredient: oxolin;
1 g of ointment contains oxolin (calculated as anhydrous substance) 2.5 mg;
excipients: mineral oil, white soft paraffin.
Dosage form
Ointment.
Main physicochemical properties: white or light yellow ointment. During storage, a pinkish tint may appear.

Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Oxolin has antiviral activity against DNA and RNA viruses: adenovirus, influenza virus, herpes simplex and herpes zoster. The mechanism of antiviral activity of the drug is the chemical interaction with guanine residues of viral nucleic acids, as a result of which the nucleic acid becomes functionally inactive.
Pharmacokinetics
When applied to the skin and mucous membranes, the drug is rapidly absorbed, partially penetrates the blood and parenchymal organs (liver, kidneys, spleen). Oxolin is relatively quickly excreted from the body with urine and does not accumulate in the organs.
Indication
Treatment of viral rhinitis, prevention of influenza.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to oxolin and other components of the drug.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions
Simultaneous intranasal use with adrenomimetic agents may cause drying of the nasal mucosa.
Application features
The ointment is not intended for application to the mucous membrane of the eyes. The drug should not be applied to damaged skin.
Ability to influence reaction speed when driving vehicles or other mechanisms

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding
There are no safety data, so it is not recommended to use the drug during these periods.
Method of administration and doses
Treatment of viral rhinitis: apply the drug to the nasal mucosa 2–3 times a day for 3–4 days.
Flu prevention: during the peak and maximum outbreak of the epidemic (usually within 25 days) or when in contact with flu patients, apply the drug to the nasal mucosa twice a day (morning and evening).
Children
There are no data on the safety and efficacy of use in children.
Overdose
No cases of overdose have been reported so far.
Symptoms: possible burning sensation on the nasal mucosa and rhinorrhea.
Treatment: stop using the ointment, wash off the remnants of the drug with warm water.
Adverse reactions
At the site of application of the ointment, a short-term burning sensation, rhinorrhea, and blue discoloration of the mucous membrane may occur.
Expiration date
3 years.
Do not use the drug after the expiration date indicated on the package.
Storage conditions
Store at a temperature not exceeding 10 °C in a place inaccessible to children.
