Recommendations for use
The enzymes contained in "Pangest®" contribute to the complete digestion of fats, carbohydrates and proteins from the daily diet, in functional digestive disorders associated with a deficiency or imbalance of digestive enzymes, such as dyspepsia, discomfort after eating, a feeling of fullness in the stomach, during digestion of food.
Pangest® is recommended for conditions accompanied by pancreatic enzyme deficiency, such as cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, and upper gastrointestinal surgery.
Properties
The enzymes in Pangest have been carefully selected for their activity at different pH values in the gastrointestinal tract. One of the innovations of Pangest® is the new "capsule in capsule" (CC) delivery system, which is used to protect the enzymes. CC is a technology that allows enzymes to be delivered to specific areas of the gastrointestinal tract. The enzymes are distributed in an outer and inner capsule, which allows the enzymes to be delivered in an optimal pH environment for them.
The outer capsule disintegrates when it reaches the stomach, where digestive enzymes selected for release in the stomach break down the food into less complex and easily digestible nutrients. These enzymes are active and stable in the acidic environment of the stomach.
The inner capsule is made of a plant-based polymer and disintegrates in the intestine. The unique properties of the polymer are designed to withstand the acidic conditions of the stomach and protect the inner capsule from disintegrating and releasing its contents before reaching the small intestine. Thus, the entire enzyme content of the inner capsule enters the small intestine, where it stimulates digestion instead of pancreatic enzymes. The enzymes are selected to ensure their activity in the pH range of the small intestine. Pre-digestion in the stomach prevents the development of gastric distress and gastric overflow, because the small intestine receives the correct, well-digested chyme. The use of digestive enzymes increases fat absorption and prevents the absorption of nutrients in patients with pancreatic diseases such as cystic fibrosis.
Research on the hydrolytic efficiency of Pangest® enzymes:
Pangest enzymes have been shown to digest fats more efficiently than animal-derived pancreatin. A 19-fold increase in lipolysis (fat breakdown) was observed at the entrance to the duodenum, indicating the high efficiency and stability of the microbial lipases in Pangest® enzymes under these digestive conditions.
Regarding carbohydrate digestion: amylases and glucoamylases were active in acidic gastric conditions. As expected, animal pancreatin was inactive in these pH conditions, as it is supplied in enteric-coated granules to avoid inactivation by acid. Glycolysis (the breakdown of glucose molecules to produce substances that provide the body with energy) induced by Pangest® enzymes began 20 minutes after ingestion and after 2 hours in the stomach was 7 times more effective than with animal pancreatin.
The effectiveness of proteolysis (protein breakdown) under the influence of Pangest® enzymes was evident as early as 2 hours after digestion of food in the stomach. In the intestine, the enzymes retained proteolytic activity for 2 hours.
p align="justify"> Enzymes from microorganisms are more efficient, stable, beneficial (resistant to heat and inactivation by stomach acid), and active over a wider pH range than digestive enzymes from animals.
The enzyme alpha-galactosidase reduces intestinal gas formation after a high-fiber diet.
Animal and human studies support the benefits of using microbial-derived enzymes to address pancreatic enzyme deficiencies. These studies show that microbial-derived enzymes are more potent and effective than animal-derived pancreatin, so that smaller amounts of these enzymes can achieve results equivalent to those of animal-derived pancreatic enzymes.
