Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) is an ethanolamide of palmitic acid, which is a structural analogue of the endocannabinoid anandamide; It belongs to bioregulators with a wide range of biological and pharmacological effects, has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, membranotropic and membrane-stabilizing properties. It participates in the modulation of neurotransmitter release, in the functioning of cellular energy systems and is involved in the regulation of various processes, including pain and inflammation.
PEA is an endogenous fatty acid amide that belongs to the class of nuclear factor agonists. It has the ability to bind to nuclear receptors in cells associated with chronic nociception and inflammation. It locally reduces inflammation by binding to the PPAR-α receptor and inhibiting the secretion of pro-inflammatory signaling molecules.
