Pharmacological properties

Peppermint leaves contain essential oil, which includes menthol, pinenes, limonene, phellandrene, cineole and other terpenoids. In addition, the drug contains flavonoids, ursolic and oleanolic acid, betaine, carotene, hesperidin, tannins, organic acids, trace elements. This complex of biologically active substances has a choleretic, sedative and weak hypotensive effect. Preparations from peppermint leaves increase the secretion of digestive glands, stimulate appetite, inhibit the processes of putrefaction and fermentation in the digestive canal, reduce the tone of smooth muscles of the intestines, biliary and urinary tracts, and increase bile secretion.

Indication

In complex therapy for diseases of the digestive tract (nausea of various origins, intestinal colic, flatulence, spasms of the digestive tract), liver diseases (cholecystitis, hepatitis, cholangitis, gallstone disease), as a mild sedative.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to biologically active substances included in the preparation; spasmophilia; croup; bronchial asthma.

Method of administration and doses

Use as an infusion: Place 5 g (1 tablespoon) of leaves in an enameled dish, pour 1 cup (200 ml) of hot boiled water, cover and keep in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes. Cool at room temperature for 45 minutes, strain, squeeze the residue to a strained infusion. Bring the volume of the infusion to 200 ml with boiled water. Take warm 2-3 times a day 15 minutes before meals: adults and children from 14 years old - ½-1/3 cup, children 12-14 years old - ¼ cup, 7-12 years old - 2 tablespoons, 3-7 years old - 1 tablespoon. Shake the infusion before use.

The duration of treatment is determined individually, taking into account the nature of the disease, the stability of the achieved therapeutic effect and the tolerability of the drug.

Children.

Peppermint leaf should not be given to children under 3 years of age, as there is no experience with the use of this medicine in this age group.

Overdose

In case of overdose, the sedative effect of the drug may be enhanced, pain in the heart area may occur. Treatment: symptomatic therapy.
