Composition
active ingredient: dry ivy leaf extract;
1 ml of syrup contains 7 mg of dry extract of ivy leaves (Hedera helix L.) (5-7, 5:1) extractant: ethanol 30%;
excipients: potassium sorbate; citric acid anhydrous; xanthan gum; cherry flavoring; sorbitol crystallizing solution (E 420); purified water;
2.5 ml of syrup contains 0.963 g of the sweetener sorbitol = 0.08 bread units.
Dosage form
Syrup.
Main physicochemical properties: light brown, slightly cloudy syrup with a sweet fruity taste and cherry smell.

Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics.
A herbal preparation containing glycoside saponins, which provide antitussive, expectorant, antispasmodic and antimicrobial effects. Reduces the viscosity of sputum, facilitates its discharge.
Indication
Acute inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract accompanied by cough; symptomatic treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases of the bronchi.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to the active substance, plants of the Araliaceae family, or to any other component of the drug. Fructose intolerance. The drug is not recommended for use in children under 2 years of age due to the risk of increased respiratory symptoms.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions
No side effects of Prospan® cough syrup have been observed when used simultaneously with other medications. Therefore, the drug can be used together with other medications, such as antibiotics. Concomitant use of cough suppressants such as codeine or dextromethorphan is not recommended without medical advice.
Application features
Prolonged or recurrent cough in children requires medical diagnosis before treatment. If symptoms persist or shortness of breath, fever, chills, or purulent or bloody sputum appears, consult a doctor immediately. Use with caution in patients with gastritis or peptic ulcer disease.
The medicinal product contains sorbitol. When following the dosage instructions, the patient receives up to 1.9 g of sorbitol with each dose. May have a mild laxative effect.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding
Due to the lack of research data, this drug should not be taken during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
The ability to influence the reaction speed when driving or working with other mechanisms
The drug does not affect the reaction speed when driving or working with other mechanisms.
Method of administration and doses
Children aged 2 to 6 years old should take Prospan® cough syrup orally 2.5 ml 2 times a day, children aged 6 to 12 years old - 5 ml 2 times a day, adults and children aged 12 years and older - 5 ml 3 times a day using the enclosed measuring cup.
The syrup should be used morning, afternoon and evening.
The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor individually depending on the type and severity of symptoms. In uncomplicated cases, the duration of treatment is 1 week.
If the patient's condition does not improve after a week of treatment, a doctor should be consulted regarding further treatment.
Shake the bottle thoroughly before each use!
Children
The drug is used in pediatric practice. The drug is not recommended for use in children under 2 years of age due to the risk of increased respiratory symptoms.
Overdose
Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Taking doses exceeding the recommended dose may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or anxiety. Treatment is symptomatic.
Side effects
Allergic reactions such as shortness of breath, angioedema, skin rash, urticaria, itching may occur. Frequency unknown.
Patients with hypersensitivity may experience gastrointestinal disorders, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, due to the sorbitol content.
Reporting of adverse reactions
Reporting adverse reactions after the registration of a medicinal product is important. This allows monitoring of the benefit/risk ratio when using this medicinal product. Expiration date
3 years.
After opening the package, the drug can be used for 6 months.
Do not use after the expiration date on the package.
Storage conditions
During storage, slight clouding and a slight change in the taste of the syrup may occur, which does not affect the therapeutic properties of the drug.
