Antibacterial agent. Silver proteinate, silver ion, or silver salt preparations inhibit the growth of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (bacteriostatic action). In addition, silver ions determine the precipitation of bacterial proteins (bactericidal action).
Pharmacokinetics
Silver proteinate applied topically is poorly absorbed.
Indication
Decongestant and antiseptic for the nasal mucosa and antiseptic for the ear canal.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to any substance included in the medicinal product.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions
Protargol may interact with drugs that contain papain.
Papain is a proteolytic enzyme belonging to the class of hydrolases extracted from unripe papaya fruits (Carica papaya).
Simultaneous use of silver proteinate and papain may reduce the enzymatic action of the latter.
Application features
Avoid simultaneous use with papaya-based preparations (see section "Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions"). The recommended doses and method of administration of the drug should be followed. Silver proteinate, if used excessively over a long period of time, may cause toxic effects.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding
Pregnancy
There are insufficient data on the use of silver proteinate in pregnant women. Silver proteinate should not be used during pregnancy unless clearly necessary.

Accumulation of silver in the skin, mucous membranes, membranes and eyes, which is associated with prolonged use of the drug, may cause allergies, a characteristic feature of which is the coloring of the skin from gray to dark blue, which is caused by the interaction of silver with various proteins and, as a result, the production of pigments. In addition, systemic symptoms such as hepatotoxicity, cardiomyopathy, amnesia may occur, which are a consequence of the neurotoxic process.
