Pharmacological properties
Rinazolin belongs to the group of local vasoconstrictors (decongestants). It has an alpha-adrenomimetic effect.
Narrows blood vessels at the site of application, reduces swelling of the nasal mucosa and upper respiratory tract, reduces nasal discharge. Restores nasal breathing. Promotes restoration of aeration of the paranasal sinuses, middle ear cavity, which prevents the development of bacterial complications (sinusitis, sinusitis, otitis media).
Oxymetazoline has antiviral, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and antioxidant effects. Thanks to this combined mechanism of action, clinical studies have proven faster and more effective relief of symptoms of acute rhinitis (nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, sneezing, worsening of well-being).
When applied topically to the nose in therapeutic concentrations, it does not irritate the nasal mucosa and does not cause hyperemia. The drug begins to act quickly (a few minutes after application). T ½ is about 35 hours after application. 2.1% of the drug is excreted by the kidneys, about 1.1% is excreted in the feces. Duration of action - up to 12 hours.
When applied topically intranasally, it has no systemic effect.
Indication
Acute respiratory diseases accompanied by nasal congestion; allergic rhinitis; vasomotor rhinitis; to restore drainage and nasal breathing in diseases of the paranasal sinuses of the nasal cavity, eustachitis, otitis media; to eliminate edema before diagnostic manipulations in the nasal passages.
Application
Immediately before use, hold the bottle with the drug in the palm of your hand to warm it to body temperature. Before administering the drug, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the nose.
Rinazolin drops. Unscrew the cap, remove it and, slightly pressing on the bottle body, drip 1-2 drops of the solution into the nose.
Adults and children over 6 years of age: Apply 1-2 drops of 0.05% solution into each nostril 2-3 times daily.
Children aged 1 to 6 years: Apply 1-2 drops of 0.025% solution into each nostril 2-3 times a day.
The drug should be used for no more than 5-7 days. The drug can be used again only after a few days.
Rinazolin spray. When using the drug, hold the bottle vertically with the sprayer upwards. Before use, remove the protective cap of the bottle, place the tip of the nozzle in the nostril, squeeze the bottle with a short sharp movement and, removing the tip from the nose, unsqueeze it. During injection, it is recommended to inhale slightly through the nose.
Adults and children over 6 years of age - 1 spray in each nostril 2-3 times a day. The drug should be used for no more than 5-7 days. The drug can be used again only after a few days. Doses higher than recommended should be used only under the supervision of a doctor.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, atrophic rhinitis. when using MAO inhibitors and within 2 weeks after stopping treatment with MAO inhibitors, as well as other drugs that contribute to the increase in blood pressure. with increased intraocular pressure, especially with angle-closure glaucoma. with severe forms of cardiovascular diseases (e.g. coronary artery disease, angina). pheochromocytoma. metabolic disorders (hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, porphyria). prostatic hypertrophy.
Side effects
On the part of the respiratory system: nasal discomfort, burning sensation or dryness of the nasal mucosa, sneezing, nosebleeds.
After the effect of Rinazolin wears off, a feeling of severe nasal congestion (reactive hyperemia) is possible. Apnea in newborns and young children (especially in cases of overdose).
From the nervous system: headache, drowsiness, fatigue, seizures, hallucinations (especially in children).
Cardiovascular system: topical nasal application may cause systemic effects such as palpitations, tachycardia, and hypertension.
On the part of the immune system: allergic reactions are possible, including rash, itching, angioedema.
Special instructions
Prolonged use and overdose of the drug should be avoided. Prolonged use of a decongestant for the nose may lead to a weakening of the drug's effect. Abuse of this drug may cause atrophy of the mucous membrane and reactive hyperemia with rhinitis medicamentosa.
After using the drug, special observation is necessary for patients with chronic rhinitis. Doses higher than recommended should be used only under the supervision of a physician.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the drug is used with extreme caution. The recommended dosage should not be exceeded.
Ability to influence the reaction rate when driving vehicles or working with other mechanisms. After prolonged use of the drug in doses exceeding the recommended ones, a general effect on the cardiovascular system cannot be excluded. In such cases, the ability to drive vehicles or work with other mechanisms may decrease.
Children. Rinazolin drops 0.025% should not be used in children under 1 year of age; Rinazolin drops 0.05% - in children under 6 years of age; Rinazolin spray - in children under 6 years of age.
Do not use MAO inhibitors and other drugs that increase blood pressure, due to the risk of increased blood pressure. The combined use of other vasoconstrictor drugs increases the risk of side effects.
Overdose
After a significant overdose or accidental ingestion, the following symptoms may occur: mydriasis, nausea, vomiting, cyanosis, fever, cramps, tachycardia, palpitations, arrhythmia, cardiovascular failure, cardiac arrest, increased sweating, agitation, convulsions, ag, pulmonary edema, respiratory disorders, pallor, miosis, hyposmia, mental disorders.
In addition, CNS depression may occur, accompanied by drowsiness, decreased body temperature, bradycardia, arterial hypertension, apnea, and possible development of coma.
Therapeutic measures in case of overdose: gastric lavage, use of activated charcoal, ventilation of the lungs. Phentolamine is used to reduce blood pressure. Vasopressors should not be taken. If necessary, anticonvulsant therapy is indicated.
Storage conditions
