Application

Drainage is a treatment method that involves removing contents from wounds, abscesses, contents of hollow organs, natural or pathological cavities of the body. Complete drainage ensures adequate outflow of wound exudate, creates the best conditions for early rejection of dead tissues and transition of healing to the regeneration phase. There are practically no contraindications to drainage. In the process of purulent surgical and antibacterial therapy, another advantage of drainage was revealed - the possibility of targeted influence on wound infection.

To ensure good drainage, it is necessary to take into account the nature of the drainage, the choice of the optimal drainage method for each case, the position of the drainage in the wound, the use of certain preparations for washing the wound (depending on the sensitivity of the microflora), and care for the drainage system in compliance with the rules of asepsis.

For drainage, rubber, glass or plastic tubes of various sizes and diameters, rubber (glove) gutters, specially made plastic strips, gauze swabs inserted into the wound or cavity being drained, soft probes, and catheters are used.
