Composition

active ingredient: sulfonamide;

1 g of ointment contains sulfonamide 50 mg (0.05 g) or 100 mg (0.1 g);

excipient: white soft paraffin.

Dosage form

Ointment.

Main physicochemical properties:

5% ointment: white or light yellow ointment. It should be homogeneous in appearance;

10% ointment: white or light yellow ointment.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

The drug has an antimicrobial effect on streptococci and other microorganisms. Streptocide disrupts the process of assimilation by the microbial cell of its growth factors - folic acid and similar substances that contain para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), i.e. due to the similarity of the structure of PABA and sulfonamide, the latter is a competitive antagonist of the acid at the level of biochemical systems of microorganisms.

Pharmacokinetics have not been determined.

Indication

Ulcers, burns, cracks, wounds, pyoderma, erysipelas of the skin, purulent-inflammatory processes of the skin that are not accompanied by pronounced exudation.

Contraindication

The drug is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to any component of the drug or to any other sulfonamide drugs, in renal failure, acute porphyria, as well as during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Special safety precautions

If an allergic reaction occurs at the site of application of the ointment, the drug should be discontinued. Premature discontinuation of treatment with the drug may lead to the development of sulfonamide-resistant microorganisms.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions

While using "Streptocide Ointment", it is undesirable to take such medications as digitoxin, hydrochloric acid, caffeine, mezaton, phenobarbital, and adrenaline hydrochloride.

Novocaine, which contains a para-aminobenzoic acid residue, reduces the effectiveness of the drug if these drugs are used immediately one after the other.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding

Contraindicated use of the drug.

Method of administration and doses

"Streptocide ointment" should be applied in a thin layer to the affected area, including under a gauze bandage. The frequency and duration of application is determined by the doctor and depends on the severity of the disease and the achieved therapeutic effect.

Children

The safety and effectiveness of Streptocide Ointment in children have not been established, therefore the use of the drug in children is not recommended.
