Sulpiride-DT is intended for short-term treatment of states of agitation and aggressiveness in patients with acute and chronic mental disorders (schizophrenia, chronic disorders of a non-schizophrenic nature: paranoid states, chronic hallucinatory psychosis).
Composition
Active ingredient: sulpiride; 1 ml sulpiride 50 mg
Excipients: sulfuric acid, sodium chloride, water for injection.
Sulpiride acts on dopaminergic neurotransmission in the brain as a dopaminomimetic, thereby activating the central nervous system. In high doses, sulpiride also has an anti-reproductive effect.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to sulpiride or to any of the excipients of the drug, prolactin-dependent tumors (for example, prolactin-secreting pituitary adenoma (prolactinoma) and breast cancer), known or suspected diagnosis of pheochromocytoma, in combination with non-antiparkinsonian dopamine agonists (cabergoline and quinagolide).
Method of application
The drug is administered intramuscularly. For adult patients. The minimum effective dose should always be prescribed. If the patient's clinical condition allows, treatment should begin with a low dose (100 mg), after which a gradual dose titration is possible. The dose is from 400 to 800 mg per day for 2 weeks.
Application features
Pregnant women
Due to limited experience with use during pregnancy, its use is not recommended. If sulpiride is used during pregnancy, appropriate neonatal monitoring should be considered, given the safety profile of sulpiride.
Since sulpiride is found in breast milk, breastfeeding during treatment is not recommended.
Drivers
Patients, especially those who drive vehicles or operate machinery, should be warned that taking this medication may cause drowsiness. Driving and operating machinery is contraindicated during treatment with this medication.
Overdose
Experience with overdose of sulpiride is limited. Dyskinetic manifestations with spasmodic torticollis, tongue protrusion and trismus may occur. Some patients may develop parkinsonism, life-threatening symptoms or even coma.
Side effects
Nervous disorders from the side of metabolism and nutrition: weight gain Cardiovascular system: prolongation of the QT interval, ventricular arrhythmias, in particular bidirectional torsades de pointes and ventricular tachycardia, which can lead to ventricular fibrillation or cardiac arrest, sudden death; postural hypotension. Patients should avoid drinking alcoholic beverages or using medications containing alcohol.
