Pharmacodynamics

Taurine is an amino acid that stimulates reparative and regenerative processes in diseases of the retina of the eye of a dystrophic nature, traumatic lesions of the eye tissues, pathological processes accompanied by a sharp disruption of the metabolism of these tissues. As an amino acid containing sulfur, the drug contributes to the normalization of cell membrane functions, optimization of energy and metabolic processes, maintenance of the constancy of the electrolyte composition of the cytoplasm of cells, inhibition of synaptic transmission (neurotransmitter role).

Pharmacokinetics

When instilled, the drug penetrates into the eye, where it exerts its specific effect. When used in therapeutic doses, taurine is practically not absorbed into the systemic bloodstream.

Indication

Dystrophic lesions of the cornea and retina, including hereditary tapetoretinal degeneration; senile, diabetic, traumatic and radiation cataracts; as a means of stimulating reparative processes in corneal injuries; as an additional agent in the treatment of open-angle glaucoma.

Contraindication

Individual hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions

When used simultaneously with timolol eye drops, a potentiated decrease in intraocular pressure is observed, as well as a potentiated decrease in blood pressure.

Application features

In open-angle glaucoma, the drug is used in combination with timolol 20-30 minutes before instillation of timolol.

The medicine contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 218), which may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).

Ability to influence reaction speed when driving vehicles or other mechanisms

The effect of the drug on the human body while driving or working with other mechanisms has not been studied.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding

There is no data on the use of the drug during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Method of administration and doses

The drug is prescribed for adults.

The bottle is opened by piercing the upper part of the neck and turning the cap all the way.

Immediately before use, it is advisable to hold the bottle with the drug in the palm of your hand to warm it to body temperature. Instill 2-3 drops 2-4 times a day into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye.

The course of treatment for injuries is 1 month, for cataracts – 3 months (repeat at 1-month intervals).

For the treatment of tapetoretinal degeneration and other degenerative diseases of the retina, penetrating corneal wounds, the drug is administered under the conjunctiva: 0.3 ml of a 4% solution once a day for 10 days. The course is repeated after 6-8 months.

In open-angle glaucoma, 2-3 drops are instilled into each conjunctival sac 2 times a day 20-30 minutes before using timolol. The course of treatment is determined individually.

Children

The efficacy and safety of the drug in children have not been studied, so the drug should not be prescribed to this age group of patients.

Overdose

There is no data on overdose of the drug.

Adverse reactions

When using the drug, allergic reactions such as allergic conjunctivitis may occur, caused by individual hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Visual disorders: eye itching, conjunctival hyperemia, eye irritation (cutting and burning in the eyes).

Expiration date

3 years. Do not use the drug after the expiration date indicated on the package.

The shelf life of the drug after opening the bottle is 28 days.

Storage conditions

Store in a place protected from light at a temperature of 8°C to 15°C.
