Composition

active ingredient: purified turpentine oil;

1 g of ointment contains 0.2 g of purified turpentine oil;

excipients: white soft paraffin, purified water, emulsifier T-2.

Dosage form

Ointment.

Main physical and chemical properties: white ointment with a yellowish tinge with a turpentine odor. The ointment should be homogeneous in appearance.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics. "Turpentine ointment" has a distracting, weak anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and analgesic effect. The distracting effect is associated with the ability to penetrate the epidermis and cause reflex changes due to irritation of skin receptors. The release of biologically active substances from the skin, in particular histamine, also plays a certain role.

Pharmacokinetics: Not studied.

Indication

Neuralgia, myositis, arthritis.

Contraindication

Severe kidney and liver diseases, skin diseases of various genesis, hypersensitivity to the drug.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions

"Turpentine ointment" is chemically incompatible with iodine solution.

Application features

Do not allow the ointment to get on mucous membranes or in the eyes! If the ointment accidentally gets into the eyes, rinse them thoroughly with plenty of running water.

Do not apply to damaged areas of skin.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding

The use of the drug is contraindicated during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Ability to influence reaction speed when driving vehicles or other mechanisms

Caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery due to the possibility of generalized adverse reactions (see section "Adverse reactions").

Method of administration and doses

Adults should apply “Turpentine Ointment” externally to rub painful areas 2–3 times a day.

The duration of use is determined by the course of the disease.

You should consult a doctor if the symptoms of the disease do not disappear while using the medicine or if any adverse reactions occur.

Children.

There is no experience with the use of the drug in children, therefore the ointment is not recommended for use in this category of patients.

Overdose

It is possible to develop hypersensitivity to the drug, increased side effects.

Side effects

In case of hypersensitivity to the drug, local allergic reactions may occur (including itching, swelling, redness of the skin, burning, rash). In some cases, generalized allergic reactions may occur (shortness of breath, rapid heartbeat, decreased blood pressure, dizziness, convulsions, loss of consciousness).
