Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
The drug contains an extract from the roots of sedum pelargonium (Pelargonium sidoides).
In animal studies, after internal administration of the extract, suppression of the course of the disease (nonspecific symptoms of the disease in the context of infection) and antioxidant properties were observed.
In vitro tests have confirmed the following effects of Umcalor:
stimulation of nonspecific defense mechanisms: stimulation of the frequency of contraction of ciliated epithelium; modulation of interferon and pro-inflammatory cytokine synthesis; stimulation of NK cell activity; stimulation of phagocytes, expression of adhesion molecules, chemotaxis; antimicrobial effects: moderate direct antibacterial and antiviral properties; growth/inhibition of adhesion of A-streptococci to desquamative/living epithelial cells; inhibition of beta-lactamase; cytoprotective properties: inhibition of human leukocyte elastase; antioxidant properties.
Pharmacokinetics
Acute and chronic infections of the respiratory tract and ENT organs (bronchitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, rhinopharyngitis).
Indication
Acute and chronic infections of the respiratory tract and ENT organs (bronchitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, rhinopharyngitis).
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug; increased tendency to bleeding, taking medications that slow down the blood clotting process; severe liver and kidney diseases (due to lack of sufficient experience in using this drug in such cases).
Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions
There are no reports of this yet.
Due to the possible effect of Umcalor on blood coagulation parameters, it is not excluded that, when used simultaneously, it may affect the effect of indirect anticoagulants such as warfarin. In a placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical study involving healthy volunteers, no interactions of Umcalor with penicillin V were found.
Application features
If the symptoms of the disease do not disappear within 1 week, the elevated body temperature persists for more than 3 days or the general condition worsens, as well as in case of impaired liver function of various origins, shortness of breath or bloody sputum, it is recommended to consult a doctor.
Ability to influence reaction speed when driving vehicles or other mechanisms
The effect on driving or operating other mechanisms has not been studied, but it should be borne in mind that the drug contains 12% ethanol by volume.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding
It is not recommended to take the drug during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to insufficient clinical experience of its use in this group of patients.
Method of administration and doses
The solution should be taken with a small amount of liquid 30 minutes before meals in the morning, afternoon and evening.
In the acute stage of the disease, the following are usually prescribed: adults and children over 12 years old - 30 drops 3 times a day; children from 6 to 12 years old - 20 drops 3 times a day; children from 1 to 6 years old - 10 drops 3 times a day.
For the prevention of relapses and further treatment of chronic diseases, adults and children over 12 years of age are prescribed 10-20 drops of the drug 3 times a day.
The average duration of treatment for acute disease and prevention of relapses is 7-10 days. The total duration of treatment should not exceed 3 weeks.
Hold the bottle vertically, if necessary, tap its bottom lightly.
Children
There is no experience with the use of the drug in children under 1 year of age, therefore Umkalor can be prescribed to children over 1 year of age.
The use of Umcalor for the treatment of young children (from 1 to 6 years old) is recommended under the supervision of a physician.

There have been no reports of overdose so far. Adverse reactions may be exacerbated.
Adverse reactions
On the part of the digestive tract: digestive tract disorders (including stomach pain, heartburn, nausea, diarrhea), mild bleeding gums.
Respiratory system: mild nosebleeds.
Hepatobiliary system: increased liver function tests. A causal relationship between the increase in these tests and the use of the drug has not been demonstrated.
