Mesna is indicated for the prevention of the toxic effects of oxazaphosphorines (ifosfamide, cyclophosphamide, trofosfamide) on the urinary tract, in particular in high-risk patients - after pelvic radiotherapy, with cystitis after previous treatment with oxazaphosphorines or with a history of urinary tract disorders.

Composition

Active ingredient: mesna;

1 ml of solution contains mesna 100 mg;

Excipients: sodium edetate, sodium hydroxide, water for injections.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to local, thiol-containing compounds or to any excipient of the drug.

Method of application

Unless otherwise specified, Uromitexan® 400 mg should usually be administered by intravenous injection at a dose of 20% of the corresponding dose of oxazaphosphorines, at time "0" (time of oxazaphosphorine administration), 4 hours later, and 8 hours later.

Children

The safety and efficacy of mesna in pediatric patients have not been established in clinical trials conducted by Baxter. However, the use of mesna in children has been reported in the medical literature.

Therapeutic experience with the use of the drug in the treatment of children indicates that in some cases it is advisable to administer Uromitexan® 400 mg more frequently (e.g., up to 6 times) and at short intervals (e.g., every 3 hours).

Overdose

Reports of unintentional overdose, as well as observational data obtained during studies of the tolerability of high doses of the drug in healthy volunteers, have shown that in adults, single doses of mesna in the range of approximately 4 g to 7 g can lead to the development of symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain/colic, diarrhea, headache, fatigue, pain in the extremities and joints, rash, flushing, hypotension, bradycardia, tachycardia, paresthesia, fever and bronchospasm.

Side effects

The most commonly (>10%) reported adverse reactions with mesna are nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain/colic, flu-like reactions, fever, flushing, dizziness, drowsiness, lethargy, headache, rash, infusion site reactions.
