Properties
Valerian root (Valeriana officinalis) has been used to treat sleep disorders and as a sedative for over 2,000 years. The plant is mentioned in the writings of Dioscorides, Galen, and ancient Chinese medical treatises. In the United States, valerian has been marketed as an anxiolytic and hypnotic since the 1940s, but it has not lost its relevance and wide range of indications.
The action of VALERIA is due to the composition of the medicinal plant: borneol, valerian, glycosides, saponins, organic acids, resins, sesquiterpenes, etc. Valerian extract increases the sensitivity of GABA receptors to the influence of γ-aminobutyric acid, which enhances the processes of inhibition in the cerebral cortex. At the same time, there is an increase in the synthesis and secretion of GABA in the synapses of neurons of the cerebral cortex. The sedative effect when using the product manifests itself slowly, but quite stably and fully develops only with systematic and long-term course administration. The speed of the body's reaction to external stimuli decreases, the onset of natural sleep is facilitated and its duration increases. Valepotriates and valeric acid have an antispasmodic effect, have a mild choleretic effect, especially with spasm and hypermotor dyskinesia of the biliary tract. The complex of biologically active substances in valerian extract, through neurohumoral mechanisms and the effect on the myocardial conduction system, regulates cardiac activity - slows down the heart rhythm and dilates the coronary vessels.
All these properties make the use of valerian extract effective:
