Dosage form
Tincture.
Main physical and chemical properties: transparent liquid of reddish-brown color with a characteristic pleasant odor. Formation of a precipitate is allowed.

Pharmacodynamics
Biologically active substances contained in the roots and rhizomes of valerian (essential oil, valeric acid, borneol, alkaloids, tannins, sugars) reduce excitation processes in the central nervous system, enhance the effects of other sedatives, hypnotics, analgesics and antispasmodics.

Indication
Functional disorders of the central nervous system (increased emotional excitability, irritability, sleep disorders), cardiovascular system (neurocirculatory dystonias).
Contraindication
Depression and other disorders accompanied by central nervous system depression. Hypersensitivity to biologically active substances included in the preparation.
Special safety measures.
During the treatment period, patients taking the tincture should refrain from driving vehicles and working with potentially dangerous mechanisms due to the ethyl alcohol content in the preparation.

Valerian tincture enhances the effects of cardiac, sedative, hypnotic, analgesic, and antispasmodic drugs.

Method of administration and doses
Valerian tincture should be used internally. Adults are recommended to take 20-30 drops of tincture 3-4 times a day until a stable therapeutic effect is achieved, children over 12 years old - at the rate of 1 drop per 1 year of life 3-4 times a day.
Children
Since the preparation contains ethanol, the tincture is not recommended for internal use in children under 12 years of age.
Overdose
If the recommended doses of the drug are significantly exceeded, the development of pronounced adverse reactions is possible: headache, dizziness, drowsiness, general weakness, abdominal pain, nausea, decreased hearing and vision, palpitations, mental agitation.
Treatment. In case of overdose, the drug should be discontinued. Symptomatic therapy (gastric lavage, administration of activated charcoal).
Adverse reactions
The drug is usually well tolerated, however, some patients may experience suppression of emotional reactions, drowsiness, decreased performance, depression, nausea, spastic abdominal pain, weakness. Allergic reactions are possible (including skin redness, rash, itching, skin swelling).
