Composition
active ingredients: bismuth nitrate basic, magnesium carbonate basic, sodium bicarbonate, buckthorn bark powder, calamus rhizome powder, rutin, kelin;
1 tablet contains bismuth nitrate basic 350 mg, magnesium carbonate basic 400 mg, sodium bicarbonate 200 mg, buckthorn bark powder 25 mg, calamus rhizome powder 25 mg, rutin 5 mg, chelin 5 mg;
excipients: potato starch, talc, stearic acid.

Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics.
The drug has a complex effect. Bismuth nitrate, sodium bicarbonate, and magnesium carbonate have an antacid and astringent effect, buckthorn bark (even in small doses) contributes to a laxative effect, rutin reduces capillary permeability, and calamus rhizome and celandine provide an antispasmodic effect.

Indication
As part of complex therapy for functional dyspepsia, hyperacid gastritis, peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Severe renal dysfunction.
Gastritis with reduced gastric secretory function.
Chronic inflammatory processes in the intestines.
Chronic inflammatory processes in the gallbladder.
Gastrointestinal bleeding.
Acute catastrophic conditions.

Special safety precautions
During treatment, you should follow a diet. During treatment, you should not drink alcohol. During treatment with the drug, it is necessary to monitor kidney function and the concentration of bismuth in the blood and urine. The stool when taking the tablets is dark green or black. It is recommended to take the drug 2 hours before or after taking other medications.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions
During treatment with Vicalin, you should not take medications containing bismuth to prevent an increase in the amount of bismuth in the blood.
When using Vicalin, the resorptive effect of tetracyclines is reduced, since the interaction of tetracyclines with drugs containing magnesium cations forms complexes that are poorly absorbed.
Should not be used simultaneously with alkaloids, glycosides, enzyme preparations and antibiotics.
The drug reduces the absorption of coumarin derivatives.
It is possible to reduce the absorption of other drugs used together with Vicalin. Therefore, the time interval between taking the drugs should be at least 2 hours.
Application features
You should not take antacids or consume milk half an hour before and half an hour after taking the drug, as the available gastric juice is needed to form a protective layer.
Long-term use of bismuth compounds is not recommended due to the occurrence of encephalopathy in rare cases. If the recommended dosage regimen is followed, the risk of this side effect is very small, however, it is not recommended to take other bismuth-containing drugs while taking this drug.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding
The drug is not used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Ability to influence reaction speed when driving vehicles or other mechanisms
The effect of Vicalin on the ability to drive vehicles and other mechanisms has not been studied.
Method of administration and doses
Adults should take 1–2 tablets 3 times a day, after meals, with ½ glass of warm water. It is recommended to crush the tablets before taking.
The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor depending on the nature and severity of the disease.
Children.
There is no experience with the use of Vicalin in children.
Overdose
It manifests itself as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, development of methemoglobinemia, swelling of the eyelids and gums.
Treatment: symptomatic.
Bismuth.
With frequent use of large doses of the drug, an overdose of bismuth is possible, which may manifest itself after 10 days with symptoms characteristic of renal failure (increased levels of bismuth in the blood plasma).
Buckthorn bark.
Symptoms: colicky abdominal pain, tenesmus, feeling of discomfort.
Adverse reactions
On the part of the digestive tract: sometimes there is an increase in the frequency of bowel movements, which stops when the dose is reduced; nausea, vomiting, pigmentation on the tongue. During the use of the drug, the stool becomes dark green or black.
Central nervous system: headache.
From the blood and lymphatic system: hemoglobinemia.
General disorders: swelling of the gums and eyelids.
Other: allergic reactions including urticaria, rash, itching and swelling.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: rash, itching.
On the part of the digestive tract: black or dark green stools.
Buckthorn bark.
On the part of the digestive tract: dehydration, decreased function of intestinal enzymes, atony of the large intestine, colicky pain.

On the part of the immune system: urticaria, skin rash, itching, swelling.
