Vitamin K1 per os is intended for the prevention of vitamin K1 deficiency in children from birth, since newborns have a low supply of vitamin K in the liver and there is a risk of developing severe bleeding, including internal. Vitamin K1 (phytomenadione) ensures normal blood clotting, as it is a component of the clotting factors - prothrombin (factors ll, vll, lx, x).

Indications for use

Vitamin K1 per os is indicated for newborns for the prevention of vitamin K-dependent bleeding at a dose of 1 mg once a week for the first three months, according to the latest recommendations of EFCNI 2018 (European Standards of Care for Newborns) and ESPGHAN (European Society of Pediatrics and Nutrition).

Recommendations

Vitamin K1 per os is for oral administration. Before use, open the capsule by twisting and tearing off the top. Squeeze the contents of the capsule directly into the child's mouth, avoiding splashing, or pour into a spoon and mix with breast milk.

Be careful when squeezing the capsule contents to avoid losing the capsule in the child's mouth.

Dosage

In addition to the injectable form, vitamin K1 per os is administered to infants as follows:

1 mg (contents of one twist-off capsule) once a week from the 8th day up to and including three months of age.

Without using an injectable form, for any reason, vitamin K1 per os is administered to newborns according to the following scheme:

2 mg (contents of two twist-off capsules) at birth, then 1 mg once a week up to and including three months of age.

WARNING: Never put the capsule in a child's mouth (contents only).

Phytomenadione has low toxicity, and overdose usually does not cause clinical problems.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, hypercoagulation, thromboembolism.
